Tengelmann Ventures leads undisclosed funding round for German online games publisher Neonga

Berlin-based Neonga AG, an online games publishing specialist based, has just completed a new financing round, with Tengelmann Ventures being the lead investor.

Since Neonga was founded in summer 2010, the company has already created a broad product portfolio by launching the first three ‘free-to-play’ games: “A Mystical Land”; “World of Ants”; and just recently “DragonSoul”. These are offered free of charge as PC downloads, browser games, on Facebook, or on mobile handsets. The games are associated with ‘Item Shops’ where players can acquire specific premium goods. Neonga’s board consists of the gaming veterans Rolf Kloeppel (CEO), Benjamin Kaiser (CTO) Mario Wengler (CIO), Ralf Kloeppel (CFO), Martin Hirte (CWO) and Bjoern Koschin (CAO).

Christian Winter (General Manager, Tengelmann Ventures) stated: “Ever since Tengelmann Ventures was founded, we have been looking at various candidates from the booming online games industry. In Neonga, we see great potential due to the combination of a very experienced management team with a coherent product strategy”.

Although the funding was led by Tengelmann, the undisclosed sum was also contributed to by existing shareholders High-Tech Gründerfonds and VC Fonds Kreativwirtschaft Berlin, the latter which is managed by IBB. The new funds will be primarily used for the games’ international roll-out, so watch this space!
