Aarhus-based Proemial, an AI startup building an open platform that connects researchers to a larger and more diverse audience through personalized summaries of the latest research papers, raised €2 million.
The investment was led by People Ventures, co-led by Dreamcraft Ventures, and supported by a group of angel investors and advisors from Apple, Google, Meta, including academic luminary Serge Belongie from The Pioneer Centre for AI in Copenhagen. Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon, served as and advisor.
Proemial’s mission is to make it easy to read, discuss, understand and engage with recent discoveries, the researchers that produce them, and the companies that commercialize them. Founded in 2023 by serial tech entrepreneur Geet Khosla, AI product visionary Mads Rydahl, and tech veteran Brian Pedersen to revolutionize the way we discover, understand, share, and connect around scientific insights.
Werner Vogels, a strong supporter of Proemial’s vision, said: “One of the hardest issues Amazon engineers have to deal with is to understand which research is most applicable to the problem they are trying to solve. With their innovative use of cutting-edge AI, conversational design, and a deep understanding of science dissemination, Proemial is creating a product that will help us dig through the mountains of publications. I look forward to supporting them in bringing this to life, and I, for one, plan to become a user of their application.”
Proemial aims to realize the full potential of new scientific insights by attracting a much broader audience to research papers. The platform leverages both open source and proprietary models to summarize, explain, and interrogate research papers, with the main objective of connecting people around the process of discovery, innovation, and knowledge creation.
“We are democratizing research, with the intent to trigger a Cambrian explosion of innovation and public discourse in the name of open science,” added Geet Khosla, Founder and CEO of Proemial.
