Today, we take the opportunity to introduce you to Azahara Espejo, Crowdcube’s Country Manager for Spain! Azahara will join us on the workshop stage to give an educational keynote on the winning combo of VC and crowd investment. Also discussing how to prepare and execute a successful crowdfunding campaign.
A specialist in the world of alternative financing, inclusive economics and impact investing, Azahara Espejo was appointed as Crowdcube’s Country Manager for Spain in 2021 and is also the founder of a social business in Rwanda. She previously worked for a microfinance institution in Mexico.
With over one million members, Crowdcube is Europe’s first and largest equity crowdfunding platform and “the top-ranked platform by the amount of investment facilitated” according to Beauhurst in the UK. Billions have been invested in pitches on Crowdcube since its launch in 2011 and over 1,000 raises have been completed. In Spain alone, Crowdcube has channelled over €40 million since it started operations in the country in 2014, with raises for well-known startups such as Heura, Tropicfeel, Hannun, ID Finance, Velca and Wuolah. In November 2021, the platform secured €11.8 million and became one of the first crowdfunding platforms with pan-European and UK regulatory approval.
In her role with Crowdcube, Azahara takes charge of Crowdcube’s activity in the Spanish market, with a focus on searching and selecting Spanish companies at different stages that are looking for funding and visibility to grow. Azahara is a consistent and active voice promoting greater diversity in finance, and we are really excited to welcome her to the Summit!
