Entering its fourth year, the GARDENA garden award is once again searching for innovative entrepreneurs, inventors and founders who are cultivating the garden of the future. The award celebrates freshly watered ideas that reflect innovative approaches to sustainable gardening – the deadline to apply is the 24th of April!
Pär Åström, President of Gardena, explained: “Gardens, designed and cared for with passion by their owners, are not only places for creativity and relaxation. They also make an important contribution to biodiversity and have a positive influence on the microclimate in the cities and thus on sustainability as a whole. The previous competitions have shown us that clever entrepreneurs still have many good ideas. We want to offer them a platform with this award.”
The GARDENA garden award welcomes garden startups and innovators to submit their ideas and business models for the following subject areas:
- Smart gardening
- Irrigation technology
- Ecommerce
- Mobile apps in the garden environment.

The Process
In the first step, the jury will whittle down a list of finalists with regard to the degree of innovation and the aspect of sustainability. The finalists will be announced on the 16th of May. They can then present themselves and their concepts to the jury, taking place as part of an event at the spoga+gafa trade fair in Cologne, which will take place on 19 June 2022.
After the jury’s deliberation, the placements will be announced immediately and the winners will be chosen.
Meet the Jury and Partner Network
Once again participating as partners in this competition are the spoga+gafa trade fair, the German DIY trade association (BHB), the trade magazine diy and the magazine “Schöner Wohnen”. The German Garden Industry Association (IVG) and the Husqvarna Group are also represented on the expert jury.
Prizes up for Grabs!
The Gardena garden award comes with a generous prize pool – making up a total of €10k and non-cash prizes, including a special prize donated by the spoga+gafa trade fair for the most innovative logistics solution.
In addition, the German Garden Industry Association (IVG) will offer the winners the opportunity to present themselves to the specialist audience at the IVG Garden Market Forum. The first-place winner will also be presented in detail in the trade magazine diy.
