Berlin-based puntalo launches its mobile tracking product

puntalo, a new Berlin-based startup, has just launched its new mobile tracking service, which helps parents keep track of their children’s whereabouts, and users track their lost phones (Update – December 2022: The startup seems to be no longer in business and we therefore deactivated the link).

Based in Germany, puntalo was started by a small team and recently launched its product after over a year of development and testing. The company is wholly self financed and their positioning technology has been developed internally.

Why is puntalo important? Puntalo is a simple map-based service that allows you to locate the things you love from anywhere you can access the internet. For instance, you could be notified per email or SMS when your kids get home from school, see where they are on a map, or just know they’re safe when you’re apart. Additionally, if you lose your phone, you can easily see it’s location, lock it remotely, securely delete its data, or write a message on the screen, even when the SIM card has been changed.

The puntalo service is not limited to a particular phone provider for its coverage, and works all over the world. Simple to use, it works on most phones and tablets, and, unlike some other trackers on the market, the basic service is free. The application is also protected with a password for access, an uninstallation feature, and the password can be changed by you remotely any time you want. And since tracking is not spying, puntalo sends a message once a month, notifying the user that their device is being tracked.

puntalo has currently released the Symbian app and will be releasing an Android version in the next couple of weeks. The young company is also working on RIM and iPhone versions. The app is localised in six languages, while the website is in two, with more languages be added soon.

The co-founder and CEO of puntalo, Adrien Hingert, worked for the last 10 years in the marketing side of online business, for instance as the Head of Online Marketing for Jamba and the VP of Marketing for Swoopo.
