Gran Canaria is more than just an idyllic vacation destination. Through the Society of Economic Promotion of Gran Canaria (SPEGC), the Government of Gran Canaria is making strides to establish the island as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the marine and maritime sector. Central to this initiative is the High Tech Incubator in Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, along with its Acceleration Program, which aims to serve as a one-stop solution for companies looking to innovate in the marine-maritime sector.
About the program
The Acceleration Program is designed to provide technical support and entrepreneurial guidance, aiming to propel startups and SMEs into successful ventures. The program runs from October 6th until December 13th, with 35 hours of intensive training and mentorship. It is uniquely positioned to serve a range of sectors within the marine-maritime domain. These sectors include:
- Port and Logistics Services: Optimizing transportation and logistics through innovative solutions.
- Renewable Energy: Promoting sustainable energy solutions that harness oceanic resources.
- Maritime Transport: Enhancing the efficiency and safety of marine transportation through advanced technologies.
- Offshore Services: Providing specialized support and technologies for offshore drilling and exploration.
- Other Blue Economy Sectors: Including but not limited to aquaculture, marine biotechnology, and ocean tourism.
To navigate the complex challenges and capitalize on the opportunities within the marine-maritime sectors, the incubator places a strong emphasis on advanced technologies. This focus encompasses fields like Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Blockchain, IoT (Internet of Things), Robotics, Sensoring, Autonomous Vehicles, and Digital Twins. Specialized Advice
Individual advisory services are also available. These services, which can be either face-to-face or online, span multiple areas depending on the project’s maturity level:
- Financing R&D and IT projects: 600 hours
- Business, internationalization, and financing: 450 hours
- Legal and tax framework: 320 hours
- Technological advice, including data and AI: 1350 hours
- The beneficiaries of both the acceleration programs and specialized advice are companies that are part of the incubator as well as its collaborators.
Workshops and Promotional Events: Additional offerings include 20 group workshops focused on business and technology, along with seven promotional events aimed at disseminating experiences and good practices. These events also serve to network and enhance the reputation of both the incubated companies and the incubator itself. Among the events are:
- One international summit or business meeting
- One Datathon focusing on data analytics
- Five technical events such as talks, conferences, and Investor Days
Workspaces: Located at the Marine-Maritime Innovation Centre, specifically in the Fundación Puerto Las Palmas Building on Muelle de Sta. Catalina.
Other Services: Experimentation is also offered, with a total of 160 hours available. Requests for these services are limited to 80, with two hours allocated per beneficiary. These services cover laboratory and testing facilities, cloud computing, and workspaces.
