Rocket Internet startup announcements: Helpling expands and ShopWings launches

No, we are not the PR agency for Rocket Internet. That said, our readers seem to be interested in everything Rocket Internet is announcing – and today they announced a lot!

The first announcement of the day was that Rocket’s property portal Lamudi is celebrating its one year anniversary.

The second announcement was that Helpling, the online platform for booking local cleaners, has expanded its operations to Brazil, Italy and Spain. The location-based service, which is headquartered in Berlin, will initially be available in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and in several Italian cities. In Sao Paulo, Madrid and Milan, Helpling has opened offices for cleaner recruitment, as well as business and marketing services. The local teams are also working to bring the service to more cities within each country very soon.

Benedikt Franke, Helpling co-founder, stated: ‘‘We are excited about expanding to Southern Europe and to South America. In the past month we have been rapidly increasing our availability in Europe. We have launched our service in more than 150 cities and our local partners have already cleaned flats in the tens of thousands. Now we are going across the Atlantic to Brazil, which means that we have truly become a global player.”

The third announcement of today was that ShopWings, a new online supermarket by Rocket Internet, launched in Munich today (Update – May 2023: The startup seems to be no longer in business under this website, and we therefore deactivated the original link). ShopWings delivers daily products from local grocery stores straight to the customer’s door. Users select their groceries on the ShopWings website, and the food will then be delivered within two hours after the placement of the order. The startup is expanding the existing market by providing a new service: groceries are still bought from local stores, but ShopWings provides a fast and easy connection between the stores and the customer through its professional shoppers. The company is launching its service in Munich and plans to expand to other cities and countries in the near future.

Florian Jaeger, Co-Founder of ShopWings, explains: “We believe people are busy, and busy people seek modern solutions that save them time. ShopWings exists to replace the hassle of traditional shopping with an innovative, time-saving alternative, so our customers can get exactly what they need, when they need it. Germans spend over two years of their lifetime in grocery stores. It therefore seems obvious to us, that online shopping will expand a lot in coming years, saving people time for the really important things.”
