German rental marketplace erento is acquired by VM Digital

erento, the Berlin-based marketplace for renting goods and services, was just acquired by VM Digital, the online subsidiary of the Vorarlberger Medienhaus Gruppe.

erento was founded in 2003 and is available in English and German. In 2010, the rental marketplace generated revenue in the seven-digit bracket, and was reported to be profitable on a monthly basis.

Rumors say that the undisclosed sum which was paid for erento is also in the middle seven-digit range. In addition to erento’s founders (Uwe Kampschulte and Chris Möller), the European Founders Fund (Samwer brothers), Holtzbrinck Ventures and Christian Vollmann (eDarling) also held a stake in the company.

Helmar Hipp, the CEO of VM Digital, commented on the recent acquisition: “erento is the ideal complement to our classified portfolio and an important step in our growth strategy”. He continued: “It is particularly interesting, with this new VM digital foothold in Berlin, to push the internationalization of erento and the other VM digital portals”.
