Norwegian startup Nomono lands over €3.5 million as podcasting and audio content demand keeps soaring

Nomono, the startup building tools for audio content creation and collaboration, has just scored over €3.5 million in new investment. The Norwegian company is pioneering new tech in the space and is ready to drop fresh products.

Audio content consumption has swiftly become one of our favourite ways to get inspired, be entertained and even be educated. From listening to podcasts, indulging in audiobooks, or catching up on the news via audio clips, it’s a wave of content consumption that’s defining a generation.

While we might all love listening to podcasts and the like, making immersive and engaging audio stories and content can be a daunting process – for podcasters and journalists alike. Norwegian startup Nomono has developed pioneering audio recording and collaboration tools to help make it easier – and the startup has just nabbed fresh capital.

Funding details

Today, Nomono has announced the close of a €3.5 million seed round. The funding was led by Schibsted Ventures, the venture arm of Schibsted, a Norwegian media group globally recognized for its production and distribution of news, podcasts and information across several media platforms.

Previous investors SINTEF Venture V AS, Spintop Ventures, and Investinor also contributed to the company’s latest seed round. Nomono is a spinoff from SINTEF Digital and will now scale its product further.

The company has previously received over €12.2 million in funding through seed investors and research support grants from the Research Council of Norway, and Innovation Norway.

CEO Jonas Rinde: “It is an honour for us to be associated with Schibsted, a globally recognized leader in the production and distribution of news and information across multiple forms of media, including podcasts. They see in Nomono a business that will revolutionize media and journalism. Furthermore, securing this new round of funding in the current economic climate represents a huge validation of the company’s innovative technologies and market vision.  It’s a substantial vote of confidence in our team, our technology, and our long-term future.”

Redefining the audio experience

Founded in 2019, Nomono has the vision to provide storytellers and content creators with audio workflows that are smart, simple, and, deliver excellent sound. The aim is to simplify podcasting and redefine the listening experience by enabling anyone to record immersive audio with uncompromising quality and ease.

Headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, the startup has initiated a big change in how professional-quality audio is created, making it accessible to all. Unlike current podcasting workflows that depend on separate field recorders, microphones, mixers, and accessories, Nomono offers a portable, all-in-one field recording solution built specifically for podcasters and journalists that automatically upload recordings to an intuitive cloud-based audio collaboration and preparation tool.

This funding also comes on the back of the launch of Nomon Sound Capsule – a cloud-connected, self-contained recording kit for capturing audio recordings in the field, designed specifically for professional podcasters and broadcast journalists. Launched in May 2022, it connects seamlessly to the Nomono Web App, an online audio collaboration tool where content creators back up their recordings, collaborate with their production team and apply AI-powered dialogue enhancement processing to ensure their audio sounds the best it can before starting the editorial process. Public pre-orders for the Sound Capsule will open during the fall of 2022, and the Web App is currently available through a free public beta.

Now, having picked up this new funding boost, the startup is planning to scale the market with its audio solutions.

Mats Staugaard, Investment Manager at Schibsted Ventures: “Creating a truly disruptive hardware solution is extremely difficult, but Nomono has the proven team and technology to deliver on its ambitious promise. Already, we’ve seen the noticeable impact the Nomono platform will have on podcast creators around the globe. We look forward to supporting the Nomono team every step of the way to revolutionize the rapidly growing podcast industry.”
