Meet Type Studio: The winner of the pitch competition at this year’s EU-Startups Summit!

This year’s EU-Startups Summit has come to an end and we are pleased to report that it was a success! Having connected 1,500+ participants via our online platform, we saw record numbers of meetings and connections taking place and good engagement metrics during the talks. We were quite happy how smoothly it all went, as this was the first online edition of the event (after hosting it in person for 6 years in a row). Thank you to everyone who joined us last week. We hope to see many of you in person at next year’s edition of the event!

One of the highlights, though, was pitch competition which took part on the final day. In preparation for this section, we reviewed around 1,000 applications of startups from across Europe. Notably, this year we had more female applicants, which is something that we had aimed to improve from last year. Finally 15 of the startups made it to the finals and pitched in front of both an expert jury, and our attendees.

Battling it out for an awesome prize package

The startups taking part this year were battling it out to win quite an awesome prize package worth about €78.5K, which includes lots of goodies such as credits for online services, coworking membership, and of course visibility including being prominently featured by EU-Startups and other publications. The overall prize package for the EU-Startups Summit pitch competition 2021 includes:

  • Up to $30K in AWS Credits and premium support
  • €9K in credits for an enterprise package of the social media monitoring tool Senti. One
  • €8.5K in credits for an explainer video maker account of mysimpleshow

  • Spaces coworking membership for 2 people & 1 year (value: €4.8K)
  • 1 year Guru Plan for SEMrush worth €2.2K
  • 1 year of Pipedrive – professional package for 10 team members (value: ~€6K)
  • €2K in credits for the cloud communications platform Vonage, which allows startups to integrate voice, video and messaging into their applications
  • $10K credits across Freshworks business software products
  • Annual suite plan for the lead finding platform FindThatLead (valued ~$4K)
  • 5 year CLUB membership + an exhibition table at the EU-Startups Summit 2022 and 3 tickets (total value: ~€6K)

Excellent online pitching

The pitching this year was unique as it was online, but that didn’t make it any less exciting. On the contrary, this meant that the startups had to prep their digital pitch style to make it engaging for an online audience, and be ready in case the judges had any questions. In fact, another cool aspect added from being online, which was the live attendee chat, where those watching were able to give their feedback live and cheer on the founders.

The expert jury who were judging the pitches included Lucile Cornet (Eight Roads), Beatrice Aliprandi (Talis Capital), Borja Breña (Nauta Capital) and Lina Chong (Target Global). The jury signalled that was not easy for to make a decision, due to the high quality of all of the pitches.

The Winner: Type Studio!

After a nail-biting wait, the judges decided that the winner would be the Berlin-based video editing startup Type Studio!

Founded in 2020, this German startup offers a new kind of video editor, allowing users to optimise their videos by simply editing the transcribed text. To cut or trim the video, users just need to select the text they would like to cut and hit delete. The founders created the technology simply because they got frustrated with how complicated video editing is today, and aim to make video editing seamless for everyone.

Also, Type Studio enables the seamless translation of your marketing videos, tutorials, ads and instagram videos to multiple languages and expand your impact to a global audience. Last but not least, Type Studio lets you annotate your video, meaning it adds text to your video and helps you to deliver even more information to your audience. Overall, a quite innovative product, presented via a great pitch at this year’s EU-Startups Summit!

Once again: Congratulations to the Type Studio team! And last but not least: A big ‘Thank You’ to all the participanting startups at this year’s EU-Startups Summit! Bravo! 🙂
