From 28-30 October, Deutsche Bank will be hosting its first public hackathon, API/Open, at Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin. The motto of this unique event is: „Be the new star in a universe beyond banking – Create solutions beyond banking for private and business clients“.
Interdisciplinary teams of programmers, designers and ideators will spend three days developing innovative software and business ideas for the future based on the new Deutsche Bank API. Teams and startups interested in participating can apply by submitting their „beyond banking“ ideas at api-open.db.com till 4 September 2016.
The selected participants will be able to access a simulated bank API at the event. This puts them in a good starting position for a potential collaboration as an API user and partner in Deutsche Bank’s digital ecosystem in the future!
Prizes for the hackathon winners
At the API/Open, teams will compete for prizes worth a total of €50,000 for three winning teams, as well as a special tech award. Following the presentation of the software prototypes, a high-profile panel of judges will name the winners at the end of the hackathon. Contestants will be judged on creativity, the added value of the digital solution for the client and the technical sophistication of the prototypes.
The Deutsche Bank API
The bank will provide an application programming interface (API). This interface makes it possible to safely and automatically exchange data with external partners in order to create business ideas outside the traditional banking business. The hackathon will work with simulated client data. The bank will use the hackathon to find partners with creative software ideas that go beyond traditional banking services. At the event, the bank also hopes to put the API through its paces and gain experience in how it can tailor its digital ecosystem even better to the needs of its partners.
