UX/UI Designer

Urban Jungle are using technology to build an insurance company for a new generation of customers. We offer better-suited products, which are much cheaper, and all sorted online in minutes. Over two years of consistently doing the right thing we’ve built one of the top rated home insurance providers in the UK and are growing incredibly quickly.

We’re looking for a UX/UI Designer who is driven by problem solving and designing great user experiences, but who also has strong convictions on what brilliant visual design looks like. As our first design hire, you need to be a versatile, jack-of-all-trades designer who isn’t afraid of getting their hands dirty.

What you’ll be doing here:

  • Developing a strong, consistent visual identity for our product
  • Working as part of our collaborative product and engineering team in mapping out brilliant design solutions to tough user problems
  • Designing wireframes, prototypes, complete hi-res designs and detailed specs
  • Revising your designs based on user interviews, surveys and peer feedback
  • Creating reusable assets like UI kits, icons, illustrations, infographics etc
  • Contributing to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product team
  • Mucking in to help out other teams with their design needs

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in a design-focused role
  • Strong portfolio with examples of customer-facing products utilising responsive design
  • Comfortable working in Sketch and Adobe CC Suite
  • An entrepreneurial mindset - you want to be working on exciting, big problems
  • An analytical side too
  • Excitement about the challenges and opportunities presented by a rapidly scaling business
  • An easy-going person who gets on well with people from diverse backgrounds and points of view
  • No experience of insurance or financial services is required

Bonus points if you:

  • Have experience with programming languages, especially HTML/CSS/JS
  • Have experience in non-product design categories; publishing, illustration, animation, print, photography, etc

You can expect from us:

  • A competitive salary
  • A material equity stake
  • A company pension
  • 25 days of paid leave, plus public holidays
  • Full training on whatever you need to do your job well
  • Clear objectives, which are regularly updated, with regular formal feedback
  • Whatever kit you need to be effective
  • Lots of social fun, events, and charity fundraising activities

Logistics and application:

You must be able to work at our offices in Oval, South London.

The hiring process involves an initial phone conversation, followed by a practical design challenge and interviews with members of the senior team.
