“Cloud Engineering Infrastructure Development”

Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure Group is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best in class compute, storage, networking, database, and security.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer with cloud services experience to join our Infrastructure Platform team. In this role, you will define, design, implement and support software solutions that automate the management of systems that deliver a cloud infrastructure service of high quality, stability and performance via a continuous integration and deployment model. You will partner with other engineering development teams responsible for architecting, designing and managing systems that support our IaaS platform. Through this work, you will play a key role in increasing the velocity of engineering while still driving quality into the product development lifecycle across all development teams within Infrastructure Platform. Ultimately, your work will ensure our IaaS solution is built to exceed our customers’

expectations on quality, performance, and fault tolerance.

As an ideal candidate you will have designed and implemented services that manage the configuration of infrastructure systems in an automated fashion at scale. In addition, you will have a strong understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and will combine this knowledge with your hands on experience in software development - you will champion creating an engineering environment that embodies the best development and testing practices for delivering a high quality service.

Min Qualifications

British Passport for Security Clearance eligibility.

* BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

* 5+ years of delivering and operating large scale, highly distributed systems.

* Excellent coding skills in Ruby or Python.

* Extensive experience with configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible at scale.

* Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix fundamentals.

 

Preferred Qualifications

* Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.

 

* Good working knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)

 

* Experience with build automation, continuous integration, or continuous deployment tools

 

* C/C++ programming expertise.

 

* Experience with containerization technologies such as docker and lxc.

 

* Experience with Virtualization Infrastructures such as Virtualbox, OpenStack, kvm, xen, and VMWare

 

* Experience with orchestrating fleets of hosts (e.g. Terraform)

 

* Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.

 

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences.

 

* Results driven; thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity.

Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Design, write, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products and services. Design and develop designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. Facilitate service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning.

Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the mission critical stack, with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture. Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the affect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies.

A BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent. Identifies solutions to knowledge of server hardware and software configuration, networking, standard internet services, scripting languages, cloud computing patterns, technology security and compliance. Experience running large scale customer facing web services. Identifies solutions to understanding of load balancing technologies and experience with development in programming languages, databases and big data stores, and container technologies. Work involves defining and documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products. A minimum of 5+ years experience of running large scale customer facing web services.
