Paris-based ColibriTD closes €1 million to make quantum computing universally accesible for all industries

ColibriTD, a French quantum-as-a-service startup, has closed a €1 million seed funding round led by Earlybird Venture Capital’s Earlybird-X fund alongside a group of angels. The funding will be used to drive the development of a unique, hardware-agnostic quantum-as-a-service platform.

Coming from different backgrounds, Dr. Laurent Guiraud, with a Ph.D. in physics and successful product roles at Google and AWS,  and Hacene Goudjil, with a successful career in business development and corporate social responsibility, co-founded ColibriTD with the aim of making quantum computing universally accessible to enterprises across different industries and sectors.

Many industries stand to benefit from ColibriTD’s innovation.  From automotive to aerospace to healthcare, key challenges remain in addressing decarbonization, pandemics, climate change, and more. These industries seek disruptive technologies to face increasing challenges yet struggle for that tech access.

Founded in 2019, ColbriTD has assembled an experienced team of researchers, complete with key academics and industry partnerships. Their collective goal is to deliver the first end-to-end quantum computing platform that aims to work on existing noisy and quantum computers.

Laurent Guiraud, Co-Founder and Quantum Computing R&D Lead of ColibriTD, said: “We are excited to work with Earlybird-X to help accelerate the 2nd quantum revolution adoption in key industrial sectors. Continuing to hire diverse and enthusiastic researchers will be the key to our success.”

Dr. Frédéric du Bois-Reymond, Partner Earlybird-X, commented: “Quantum Computing (QC) can unlock massive computing power to solve today’s challenges. Building on our hypothesis around Quantum Computing (QC), we believe that a connection between engineering tools, such as simulation software, and the QC-full-stack is crucial. After meeting the founders of ColibriTD, we are convinced that we have found the right team and approach, supported by leading academic and industry experts.”

With the funding infusion, ColibriTD will accelerate the development of the quantum as a service platform, working on existing hardware with applications in a broad range of industries, starting from aerospace and expanding to use cases in healthcare. The funding will also strengthen hardware and academic partnerships while initiating ColibriTD’s open-source strategy.
