Berlin-based carsharing startup MILES Mobility raises over €5 million to reduce the need for car ownership in Germany

Berlin-based carsharing startup MILES Mobility has raised €5 million in a Series A round. Founed in 2016, MILES offers carsharing with rates based on distance instead of time, starting at €0.79/km, and its service is now available in both Berlin and Hamburg.

MILES’ mission is to offer carsharing without any time pressure or stress, providing users with unmatched flexibility, and reducing the need for private car ownership. Vehicles can be rented through an app, from one kilometer up to one month, and cars can be dropped off anywhere – no stations, no opening hours, and no return to starting point required.

The funding round was led by Lukasz Gadowski, co-founder of Delivery Hero, along with Team Europe and Flash, and new investors Inventure Partners, WestTech Ventures, Weller Venture Capital, and other Berlin business angels.

“Traffic congestion is one of the greatest challenges facing our cities,” said Gadowski. “The pollution it creates is literally killing us, so I am excited to support new businesses alleviating this problem. MILES has got a strong team with creative minds from the automotive industry who are already making a difference in the cities they operate in. I love the spirit of the founders. They are determined and achieved a lot with little, which is why I am very proud to work with them and bring their fresh ideas to more places.“

“Our time pressure-free approach removes so much of the stress of driving in congested cities,” said Timo Nührich, CEO of MILES. “We have worked hard in the past year to build a scalable model. I am excited that this funding round will help us grow faster and expand our vision of safer and easier urban mobility to more cities.”

“I am particularly pleased to welcome Lukasz Gadowski as a new investor,” added Nührich. “Lukasz is one of Europe’s most accomplished entrepreneurs and has built and funded many successful businesses. I see him as a mentor with great knowledge of the mobility market, especially in regards to our international expansion plans.”
