JIC STARCUBE, the longest running Czech accelerator, has started registrations for this year’s program. 2016 is the eighth edition of the renowned accelerator program. The focus is on augmented and virtual reality, big data analytics, sensors and cybersecurity.
Teams from around the world can apply until 7th August and during the autumn will undergo three demanding months full of seminars, consultations with international experts and prototyping.
Applications can be completed by aspiring startups consisting of a team of at least two people. In addition to projects from the above-mentioned technology area, JIC STARCUBE 2016 is looking for budding entrepreneurs delivering solutions in five application areas, these being Industry 4.0, Retail 2.0, Paperless office, Smart city/home/office and Secured home/family.
“We are interested in teams which have global ambitions and want to build a sustainable business with the help of JIC and our technology partners,” states the JIC STARCUBE manager Hana Šudáková, who heads the accelerator. The innovative leaders she has in mind are the accelerator technology partners, which last year were AVG, Y Soft, Microsoft and Konica Minolta and who are joined this year by Honeywell, which has had a long-term association with the JIC.
“We are appreciative of the activities that the JIC performs, not only for start-ups, but also for the established companies in the region. We percieve the JIC as a hub for the knowledge economy and we are proud to be part of that,” says Jiří Tomíček, Vice President and General Director of the Brno division of Honeywell.
In partnership with Honeywell, the JIC has equipped a workplace dedicated to the Internet of Things. This is a prototyping laboratory, where teams will be able to use Arduino development kits, Raspberry PI, 3D printers and possibly a hexacopter and Arduino robot. The laboratory is located in the same building as the JIC STARCUBE Space, which for three months will be home to the accelerator teams.
The five technology partners are key to the themes of this year’s accelerator. Their internal experts are ready to help teams with the development of both technology and business sides facets and to connect them to their respective global business and marketing networks. They are ready to provide teams with the technology know how. Microsoft is a long-term partner of the accelerator, Honeywell and Konica Minolta have their R&D centres in Brno, the companies AVG and Y Soft have succeeded in launching their globally successful businesses from Brno. In their footsteps could follow up to ten teams which will be selected according to their quality by representatives of the JIC and its partners at the beginning of September.
