We are looking to hire a highly motivated data analyst with a quantitative background that enjoys dissecting complex datasets to uncover insights and presenting them to key stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to apply advanced analytical skills to the European venture, growth and corporate finance ecosystem across a variety of sectors including technology (enterprise software, fintech, consumer internet, hardware) and life sciences (biopharmaceutical, medical devices). You will work directly with senior leaders at SVB on a variety of projects to generate company, portfolio and market-specific insights that can help the sales teams capitalize on banking and lending opportunities. Furthermore, you will be expected to build out business intelligence tools to measure team performance and help shape corporate strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

• Perform analysis on proprietary datasets and private company databases (e.g. Pitchbook) to extract valuable insights and present these findings to key stakeholders

• Identify, analyze, and report on notable European Venture Capital, Private Equity and Capital Markets transactions and trends in the technology and life sciences sectors in a weekly newsletter

• Create high-quality industry reports for internal consumption and external distribution that combines market observations from sales teams and data insights

• Support senior executives in tracking team performance and analyzing key metrics related to client acquisition pipeline, loan portfolio, funding, product penetration, referral channels, etc.

• Assist sales teams with credit decision making and portfolio review by analyzing company financials, deal terms, and historical outcomes

• Seek out areas of operational improvement that lead to more efficient and automated portfolio management and prospecting

• Assist with maintenance and accuracy of company data within SVB’s data warehouse, CRM systems and other repositories

• Help organize unique industry events that lead to increased engagement with key clients and prospects

• Lead long term projects to enhance the underlying data architecture and sales operations

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a quantitative discipline, such as economics, finance, mathematics or statistics, and an accomplished academic record
• Strong understanding of technology, life sciences, startup, venture capital and corporate finance ecosystems
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills
• Strong initiative, intellectual curiosity, ownership, and attention to detail
• Ability to complete tasks independently or in small teams with minimal oversight
• Comfortable working in a matrixed reporting environment, and embrace flexible working patterns and hours given the global internal infrastructure
• Knowledge of banking products, financial statements, and credit underwriting desired
• Prior industry or market research experience preferred
• Familiarity with database tools and programming languages such as R, SQL, VBA, and Tableau is preferred
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
