Description
Isotropic Systems is seeking world class candidates to join a fast-paced, proven team working on cutting edge technology in a successful startup company that brings significant opportunity for the right candidate.
We are pioneering the introduction of innovative and disruptive low-profile multiple-beam satellite communications terminals for mobile and fixed applications. These highly integrated terminal systems combine elements of new advances in microwave lens optics, phased array antenna technology, and dynamic beam pointing control systems using analog and/or digital signal processing. Our terminal designs operate as fully electronic beam steering systems. Our IP has applications across a wide range of market sectors including: aeronautical, land mobile, maritime, and 5G, providing broadband, multi-beam, two-way communications with dynamic tracking of geostationary and non-geostationary satellites or terrestrial nodes.
Job Summary
Job Type: Full-time

Opportunity
Isotropic Systems is seeking a Modem Integration Engineer with experience in integrating modems with an antenna to form an integrated SATCOM terminal. Prior experience in integrating a steered or pointed antenna, in particular an electrically-steered antenna, is a critical requirement of the role. The Modem Integration Engineer will be responsible for the requirements, preliminary design, final design, hardware implementation, software support, documentation, and relevant interfaces for the IF or baseband link between the modem and the terminal. Reporting to the Director of Terminal Management, the Modem Integration Engineer will work closely with the rest of the technical team to bring a product to market that satisfies business and technical goals and requirements.
The successful candidate will be familiar with the common interfaces and standards of commercial SATCOM terminals and modems, and have a strong understanding of the VSAT market and ecosystem. It is expected that the candidate will be familiar with the different modem and antenna vendors within the market, and understand the differences and challenges of integration with a wide variety of disparate systems.
As a member of the Terminal Management team, the Modem Integration Engineer will contribute to the specification, design, development, and implementation of the command and control systems within the terminal at the electrical, mechanical, and software levels. Background in embedded systems design (hardware and software) will be a strong benefit.
The Modem Integration Engineer is expected to bring a high degree of creativity and problem-solving capability to search outside the box for new solutions to questions in the design, assembly, and mass production of a cost-effective Satcom terminal. Monitoring and maintaining trends of performance across multiple product lines and customer development projects is expected.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Requirements capture and definition of specifications for interfacing from the terminal to the modem
Lead the process of integrating and interfacing of the Isotropic SATCOM terminal to the modem, including the software, hardware, and electrical subcomponents
Develop the management and synchronization processes for multi-beam and beam switching for both make-before-break and break-before-make scenarios
Develop requirements for and lead the development of integrated, modular modem bays hosted within the terminal
Deliver technology and products that meet performance, cost and quality metrics
Provide effective and efficient design support during the conceptual design, detailed design, integration, and test phases of a product development program, with the goal of achieving on-time and budget completion of assigned tasks
Prepare and present design and analysis summary material during internal and external design reviews
Skills and/or Experience Needed:
BS or MS in Electrical, Systems, or related Engineering discipline
7+ years of experience in Satellite Terminal and Modem development
Strong technical leadership ability
Strong communications skills
SATCOM ground equipment industry background
Understanding and familiarity of SATCOM standards, including L-band IF interfaces and OpenAMIP protocol
Embedded systems design and firmware development and electronics specification and design experience
Proficiency with standard scientific computing toolkits, languages, and packages, such as Matlab/Python etc.
Translation of product requirements and specifications into technical requirement and specifications
Extensive experience in working with industry standard modeling tools
Experienced in writing design and performance reports and summaries
Technically proficient in MS Office products

Ability to communicate calmly in a well thought out response, verbal and written
Background in electrically-steered antennas
Software development experience in Assembly/C/C++.
Must have substantial problem-solving abilities
Interpersonal skills to effectively work with Isotropic staff internally as well as working effectively with suppliers and customers
