In Deals we solve the important problems that stand in the way of value being created, sustained, realized or protected for our clients working together to aid responsible recovery and growth.

Working on iconic deals with national and global clients, we put together major mergers and acquisitions and resolve business crises - from international take-over bids to financial crime investigations and cases of insolvency.

We draw upon our deals experience across many industries to support and partner with our clients, to positively impact society and the communities in which we operate.

Building trust in society and solving important problems. Our mission is building financial markets which are trusted, safe and orderly for all who use them.

PwC’s Market Abuse team is expanding its capabilities to support clients transacting in established and new financial products.

Cryptoassets are changing the face of the financial sector, and represent an exciting source of opportunity for our clients.

As they build cryptoasset services, we are helping clients develop a financial ecosystem that is trusted and compliant, by supporting surveillance and compliance projects that combat market abuse.

About Our Team

Our Market Abuse team sits within the UK Financial Crime team, as a part of the wider Forensic Services community.

We work with clients to investigate and remediate issues, transform financial crime functions and prepare for and respond to regulation and regulatory scrutiny.

Our team offers expertise in financial services, regulatory analysis, policy and technology.

This expertise allows us to facilitate responsive and robust investigations driven by analytics, remediation built around technologies to improve efficiency and a data driven technology response to regulation and regulation enforcement.

Who we are looking for:

  • We are currently looking for an experienced individual with expertise in cryptoassets, with a regulatory, risk, surveillance or compliance background.
  • You might have experience performing market abuse surveillance, delivering compliance projects, working in compliance advisory, or with a regulator.
  • Demonstrable compliance and market abuse knowledge is essential, as you will be engaging with internal and external SMEs to lead the delivery of market abuse risk projects.
  • Specifically, you will bring in knowledge of best practice and industry approaches to market abuse risk in the cryptoasset space, this may relate to centralized exchanges, DeFi providers, payment services, or other organizations.
  • We are looking for someone with an understanding of how the cryptoasset sector is tackling market abuse challenges, and a view on where it is going.
  • You should be able to demonstrate strong experience in this space.
  • This might be through setting up surveillance programmes, leading on market abuse surveillance activities, or delivering market abuse projects.

Our team is based on collaboration and meeting client needs, so while this role will focus on cryptoasset surveillance, there will be a significant amount of cross-project working to support the full range of asset classes and clients.

  • This will offer the opportunity to build skills and to see ways of working across a wide range of organisations.
  • We have ambitious plans and are looking for individuals who can develop and build our project management and delivery capability to support surveillance projects for a wide range of clients.
  • We support our clients with a range of services
  • Vendor evaluations and support for surveillance strategic roadmaps
  • Market abuse surveillance implementation and calibration (e.g. detection scenarios, instance identification, parameter setting and tuning)
  • Data driven surveillance effectiveness review and optimization
  • Reviewing end-to-end data and process flow supporting surveillance implementations
  • Holistic surveillance approach and advice across, voice, ecomms, trades and orders
  • Assistance in responding to regulatory enquiries

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Supporting senior team members in scoping, managing and delivering complex risk assessment and surveillance engagements
  • Providing day-to-day support for deployment of a wide range of vendor solutions
  • Actively contributing on client-facing project work, being self-starting and motivated to produce the required high standard of deliverables
  • Supporting senior team members in developing Financial Crime propositions, particularly around cryptoassets, and delivery methodologies that will add value to our clients
  • Development of risk assessment methodology and procedures behind our surveillance offerings
  • Building and maintaining relationships both internally within PwC and externally with clients
  • Supporting sales through work on bids, proposal responses and developing opportunities

  • Have demonstrable industry experience with cryptoasset market abuse risk
  • Have your own opinions and views on cryptoasset market abuse regulation
  • Show experience of project delivery and working to timelines
  • Bring a collaborative approach, intellectual curiosity and entrepreneurial attitude
  • Display a keen interest in technology across the financial crime space

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills

Excellent presentation and report writing skills:

  • Ability to develop new ideas into structured, deliverable proposals and projects
  • Ability to identify and address client needs, develop and maintain meaningful client relationships

This type of experience will help you succeed in the role:

  • Previous experience in a cryptoasset firm, whether a startup or established business
  • Delivery of compliance projects or cryptoasset market abuse programmes
