Finance Director role Interim, energy infrastructure sector (remote working within EMEA)
This is a hands-on role and great opportunity to join a significant and unique project at a key stage in its development .
Duration : 4-6 months to cover maternity leave

Sector : Energy our project is in full construction phase, with planned COD in 2023
Energy / major infrastructure project experience is essential for this role - please do not apply unless you have this.
Location
working remotely from home (based within a two-hour time zone of Central African Time, i.e. EUROPE OR AFRICA ) but the project is based in Rwanda.
Handover
to ensure a thorough transition the successful candidate will spend a handover week in Rwanda (Kigali, around October) with the current job holder prior to her taking maternity leave

Project overview
SPLK has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Energy Utility Corporation Ltd of Rwanda for a period of 25 years to develop, construct and deliver a 56MW methane gas-fired power generation plant on Lake Kivu, situated on the border between the DRC and Rwanda.
Our project is at an interesting and crucial phase for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate, with the relevant sector background, to join a small team and contribute to its ongoing success.
It is owned and well-funded by a European private family office with a strong track record within the energy infrastructure sector.
This role would ideally suit a senior and hands-on finance professional who is now following an interim career path.
Key role responsibilities :
- Controlling the capital expenditure budget and reviewing costs with the management team. Leading bi-monthly budget meetings.
- Preparation and provision of timely and accurate monthly financial reports (cash flow forecasting, project disbursement schedule and other key outputs) to the management and the investor teams.
- Reporting to the local Project Director, CEO and sole investor, working closely with the group CFO (UK based) and generally keeping them informed of all relevant financial developments.
- Supervising the FY2022 year end audit process (Big 4) and submitting financial statements to the Rwandan Revenue Authority and other regulators.
- Managing the company’s Purchase to Pay software (Compleat) which integrates with its Xero accounts, and also its Midas payroll software.
- Preparation and submission of the monthly cash calls and managing the related funding loans.
- Reviewing all accounts postings made by the management accountant, approving all invoices and ensuring their payment on a timely basis.
- Liaising with taxation authorities for all tax related matters, with a thorough understanding of VAT and WHT principles.
- Ensuring timely and accurate submission of all statutory payments (VAT, WHT and employment taxes) on a monthly basis.
- Overseeing the HR and admin functions and managing all insurance requirements
- Maintaining a comprehensive fixed asset register.
- Liaising with local and overseas banks where required.
- Maintenance of appropriate accounting records to meet legal and tax. requirements.
- Ensuring all relevant financial information is uploaded onto the company’s document management system on a timely basis.
- Company secretarial duties and the preparation of all relevant board papers as required.
- Ensuring compliance with the local authorities of the jurisdictions in which the various group companies operate.
Required skills and experience :
- Demonstrated working experience at a senior level, ideally gained both in a large corporate as well as a smaller SME / start-up environment.
- Prior knowledge of an infrastructure project in development and construction phase along with a good understanding of the financial aspects of a PPA and related construction contracts. (Essential)
- A work from home location within a two hour time zone of Central African time (Essential)
- At least 8 years PQE, holding a recognized accounting qualification and educated to a university degree level (Essential)
- Daily, weekly and monthly reporting to tight deadlines
- Comfortable working across several jurisdictions, and liaising with government functionaries
- Managing investor relationships
- Excellent reporting, budgeting and MS Office suite skills
- A hands-on approach to work with a can-do, flexible outlook
- Comfortable working in a small team, and with some degree of autonomy
- Confident and proactive, with a willingness to recommend improvements to processes where necessary
