Description

We’re looking for a Director of Data Engineering to join us in our Bradford office. Liberty Global Shared Service Centre acts as a centre of excellence with specialisms in Finance, Accounting, People and Legal. We support a number of businesses across the Liberty Global footprint, with over 15 companies in the federation including the likes of VMO2 and Atlas Edge. However, we’re ambitious. We want to become world leaders in delivering operations, redefining the shared services market. Key to this is technology, and after successes in automation, we’re doubling down on investment. The first area is data, and we see the opportunity to sell outcomes, not processes. We're looking to innovate; for example using satisfaction scores to personalise employee onboarding, ML to proactively prevent payroll leakage and predicted settlement to enable better, faster legal decision-making.

This role is about creating the stage for all of this to happen. Effectively a start-up, we need a data platform to be at the heart of our technology-led transformation. All relevant data; accessible and usable for other teams within Technology Solutions including MI specialists, analysts, automation specialists and data scientists. The purpose of the platform is to create data products, which can then be monetised with clients. The purpose of this role is to create and own the platform. The role gives a blank canvas, and we are looking for someone who has both vision and the ability to make things happen. We need an experienced engineer to design the platform both technically and in terms of team. They will make the fundamental tool chain and architectural decisions, as well as hiring the engineering team to run the operation. Critically they will set the technical standards of what good looks like. It’s very important that the candidate has good understanding/experience of DevOps, championing an agile approach and use of tools such as GIT. Whilst this is a technical role, the person needs to understand the commercial picture and how the data makes bottom-line impact. Entrepreneurial experience is ideal.

What will you be doing?

Design and ownership of data platform, responsible for answering both technical (data lake vs. data mesh) and operational (what is the support process) questions

Design and lead the team needed to deliver the data platform

Design the architect and development process to integrate different data sources together (such as legacy ERP, automation etc.) to the core data platform

Advise and help build data product MVPs that can then be operationalised at scale. Create the view on quality, ensuring appropriate QA processes are inbuilt to maximise data integrity and accuracy

Own and share continually updated documentation of all data structures and ETL/ELT processes

We tend to look for people with: Considerable commercial data engineering experience. Previous experience of at least one of the following: AWS, Azure and GCP Solid understanding of DevOps practices. Has previously built and owned CI/CD pipelines. Deployed production systems such as GitLab pipelines and Cloud Build. Experience with Kimball star/snowflake methodology databases. Experience of architecture and designing end state. Understanding of various data provision/visualisation applications e.g. Power BI. Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to own a problem and make-things-happen Competitive salary +bonus25 days annual leave with the option to purchase 5 more.

Access to wellbeing and mental health benefits such as the Calm app, personal medical, critical illness cover and dental insurance. Matched pension contribution up to 10%.Access to our car benefit scheme. Access to our online learning platform to continue to develop and grow your career with us. The chance to join an innovative, fast-paced and passionate team
