We’re looking for a passionate DevOps Platform Engineer. Can you re-architect and maintain deployment pipelines for both web applications and apps with your eyes closed and your hands tied? Do you have at least three years of experience in setting up and administering AWS environments? And would you, as a next step in your career, like to build an awesome platform for the developers of aNewSpring to build, run, deploy and monitor their applications? Did you just enthusiastically say yes? Then we’re looking for you!
At aNewSpring, we do everything we can to make learning fun and effective. Our software for professional educators helps them create beautiful, effective and varied Learning Journeys. We work with a no-nonsense approach. We believe in an open, positive and respectful collaboration. This approach allows us to improve continuously and offer our clients a better experience.
We are proud of our company culture, and keep a close eye on this. Our eNPS has not been below 39 in the last 12 months (and currently at 58) and we assess employee engagement, stress levels, work-life balance and such continuously and always act upon any signals.
Our way of working has led to a growth from a small start-up to a fast-growing SaaS company in the past ten years, with thousands of customers and even more satisfied students already. We are a Dutch company, based in Rotterdam, with offices and partners in our main regions (UK, Australia and South Africa).
Who are you?
You have both the experience and personality to give form and meaning to the job, given that you’re the first member of our new infrastructure team. In order to be able to do more in less time, as an organisation we want to move towards a DevOps-approach, where an infrastructure team will provide our application teams with the necessary tooling and platform to build, test, deploy and monitor their applications. As the first member of this new team, you will play a big part in that transition, by utilizing your knowledge and experience in regards to for example AWS, Infrastructure as Code and containers. Eventually you’ll be building the basis for our continual growth and together we’ll outgrow our current office again.
What will you do?
You’ll be responsible for extending and optimising our deployment pipeline, to enable us to build and test our web and mobile applications as easily and smoothly as possible. Another part of that pipeline will be to enable us to deploy the applications as easily as possible to our test, acceptance and production environments, in multiple regions and accounts.
How? For example by enabling us to use containers (Docker/ECS, Kubernetes/EKS), Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK) and Continuous Delivery. You’ll also monitor the usage and costs of our existing infrastructure and you’ll bring ideas to the table to keep those costs under control.
In cooperation with the CTO you’ll determine the necessary changes to our current AWS infrastructure to make it better and safer, and you’ll coordinate these changes with our hosting provider. You’ll also investigate issues as they arise in production and fix them together with our hosting provider. Or better yet, you’ll prevent them from occurring in the first place!
Are you this person? Let’s chat.

A new employer in corona time. How does that work?
No worries. Online training is our core business remember?
We have built our systems and processes entirely on remote working. We have a “Preboarding Learning Journey” about our culture and methods. Plus an online onboarding with which we support new colleagues.
Take Lize, she started with us in the Operations team as our Legal employee last September: “Starting a new job in corona time felt dicey, but the remote onboarding turned out to be very easy. An extensive onboarding programme was in place and all colleagues were (and still are) very helpful and easy to reach.
The daily team huddle keeps you well informed of what is going on and you can also quickly ask for help if something comes up. Furthermore, fun things are organized such as an online pub quiz to keep everyone involved and the mood.”
What do we offer?
- Autonomy to fill in the role yourself
- Lots of flexibility, for example to work remotely
- An inclusive company culture
- Salary according to the Baarda salary scale as “Specialist” (€ 3.100 – € 4.250 gross p / month )
- Do-it-yourself pension provision, with professional advice
- 25 Vacation days
- Of course a super nice workplace in the heart of Rotterdam with the best lunch possible.
