Business Description:
Alginor ASA seeks towards a sustainable and resource-efficient future based on seaweed treasures from the Norwegian sea. The company focuses on the total utilization of seaweeds for the production of unique, pure, and formulated products in a multifunctional biorefinery. Through safe, eco-friendly, and efficient operations, Alginor sets the standard for tomorrow’s innovative solutions and technologies.
Alginor ASA was established on 24th March 2014 to commercialize know-how and technology through the construction of an integrated Biorefinery for seaweeds.

Seaweeds are among the world’s largest untapped resource. Norway’s seaweed forest constitutes 80 % of the coastal biomass with a standing stock estimated to 50 million tons. However, in order to utilize seaweeds effectively, it is necessary to use a technology that exploits the entire biomass – a biorefinery.

Alginor plans to start up the first biorefinery in Norway focusing on total (i.e. 100 %) utilization and resource-efficient processing of seaweeds to pure and formula-specific products for use in food, feed, pharma, agri, chemicals, and materials. The biorefinery will be in the form of a Demonstration unit with a tentative production capacity of 5,000 tons of seaweed per year. Further, Alginor plans a new expansion to a full-scale industrial Biorefinery with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of seaweed per year.
