Dublin-based Customs Window raises €800k to tackle the growing challenges in customs declarations

Customs Window Technologies, an innovative Irish RegTech startup, has successfully closed an €800k seed funding round. This investment, supported by private investors, Enterprise Ireland’s EIIS, and the High Potential Startup (HPSU) programme, will fuel Customs Window’s strategic expansion into the UK market, where regulatory complexities and customs requirements are on the rise.

Customs Window, founded in 2022 by Brian Murphy and Johnny Dunne, addresses the growing challenges of customs declarations, especially in the wake of Brexit and the ongoing growth in e-commerce. Based at NexusUCD in Dublin, the company provides a comprehensive compliance system that leverages advanced process automation and AI to simplify customs management, allowing businesses to meet evolving customs requirements efficiently.

Addressing growing compliance needs in the UK market

With over 91 million customs declarations submitted to the UK’s HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in 2023 and regulatory changes anticipated in 2025, the UK presents an expansive opportunity for Customs Window. The company’s platform, which integrates advanced automation to streamline the customs process, allows clients such as e-commerce and logistics companies to manage their declarations more effectively. Customs Window’s open API helps clients automate customs declaration submissions while maintaining robust data management and compliance tracking.

Johnny Dunne, CEO and Co-founder of Customs Window commented: “This seed round will allow us to roll out our system to new customers in the UK, a key target market for the company. We’re incredibly grateful for the support from our private investors, Enterprise Ireland, and the EIIS programme.”

Simplifying customs compliance for modern businesses

Customs Window’s solution offers companies a powerful tool to tackle the growing complexity of customs compliance, which can persist long after goods have been delivered. As COO Brian Murphy noted: “Our system removes the complexity of customs declarations and protects sensitive data throughout the process, significantly reducing risks for companies handling international shipments.”

Customs Window’s intelligent platform, designed with AI and automation, not only streamlines compliance but also minimizes the time, cost, and stress associated with managing customs declarations. In Ireland alone, customs declarations surged from under 2 million in 2020 to over 54 million in 2023, driven by post-Brexit regulations, e-commerce growth, and changing EU standards. Customs Window’s technology is particularly well-suited to address these escalating demands.

An international vision with strong support

The funding round saw participation from Mike Stalley, Founder and former CEO of Fiscal Reps, who joins Customs Window as an advisor, bringing valuable expertise in compliance software and strategic growth. Customs Window’s participation in University College Dublin’s AI Ecosystem Accelerator Programme, delivered by NovaUCD in collaboration with CeADAR, highlights its commitment to leveraging AI in its product offering.

Anne Lanigan, Divisional Manager, Technology & Services at Enterprise Ireland, expressed her support, stating: “Customs Window Technologies exemplifies the impact that Irish innovation can have on global challenges. Enterprise Ireland is proud to support Customs Window as it scales internationally, and we congratulate the team on this milestone.”

With the €800k in funding, Customs Window is set to make a significant impact on the UK market, providing companies with a streamlined, AI-powered solution to navigate the complex world of customs compliance.
