Polish bus manufacturer MMI, a company focused on the distribution and production of high-quality tourist and urban buses using, has secured a significant investment of €7.7 million from Vinci S.A. This capital injection will propel MMI’s ambitious plans to develop a new generation of zero-emission buses, including electric and hydrogen-powered models, positioning the company as a key player in the European market.
MMI, a family-owned company with a growing reputation, has been primarily known for its diesel and compressed natural gas-powered vehicles. However, with the increasing demand for sustainable transport solutions, MMI is transitioning towards producing zero-emission buses. The newly secured funding will enable the company to develop three variants of electric buses: low-entry, low-floor, and standard-floor. These vehicles will be equipped with cutting-edge drive technology, innovative chassis, and lightweight body designs aimed at maximizing efficiency and range.
“We are excited to embark on this technological transformation,” said Stanisław Zdrojewski, CEO of MMI. “Our focus is on creating electric buses that not only meet but exceed market expectations. We’re developing new body structures using advanced composite technology, which will significantly reduce vehicle weight and enhance performance. Additionally, we’re working on a drivetrain system that integrates synchronous motors directly into the wheel hubs, improving efficiency and reliability.”
One of the most groundbreaking aspects of MMI’s development plan is the creation of an electric minibus powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. This initiative, along with the construction of a modern production hall, will enable MMI to double its production capacity and broaden its reach across Europe.
MMI’s strategic growth comes at a critical time, as the European Union intensifies its push towards zero-emission public transport. The EU has set a target for all new city buses to be zero-emission by 2030, a challenge that MMI is well-positioned to meet. The company’s forward-thinking approach not only addresses current market needs but also anticipates future regulatory requirements, ensuring its products remain competitive across Europe.
The financial success of MMI has been on a steady rise, with the company tripling its performance last year and surpassing 70 million PLN in revenue. This latest investment will further strengthen MMI’s market position, enabling it to expand its operations in key European countries such as Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Scandinavia.
“MMI’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is at the heart of our expansion strategy,” added Zdrojewski. “Our goal is to offer a full range of electric and hydrogen-powered minibuses within the next three years, making MMI a leader in the zero-emission public transport sector.”
As MMI moves forward with its ambitious plans, the company’s innovative approach to bus manufacturing is set to make a significant impact not only in Poland but across the broader European market. With the backing of Vinci S.A., MMI is on track to become a major force in the drive towards sustainable urban transport.
