The health sector has been undergoing a profound transformation in recent years. With medical systems and healthcare workers under increasing pressure and the changing expectations for healthcare provision, the sector is going digital – and startups could hold the key to enhancing efficiency and outcomes for all.

Innovation in Health wants to nurture a new era of collaboration between the health sector and startups. It’s based on the belief that doing so can help develop new ideas and approaches that will change the future of health for the better. The initiative has now launched 8 fresh open innovation challenges to bridge the gap between the Pharma/MedTech industry, healthcare providers and startups.

The challenges

  • Disruptive solutions for early disease identification and lack of quality of care for systemic lupus
    erythematosus
  • Development of a non-invasive tool/device for monitoring the health status of the gut microbiome
  • Improving Clinical Decision Support Systems in Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Improved chronic patient management across different services
  • Simplified nucleic acid extraction and/or sample preparation
  • Improving healthcare access in low and middle-income countries
  • Digital technologies to improve antibiotic prescription practices
  • Integration of a cuffless blood pressure monitoring technology into the Beurer product portfolio

Connecting startups and the health industry

The challenges are part of Innovation in Health’s flagship programmes: Startups Meet Pharma, Startups Meet Healthcare Providers and Meet&Match.Dx.

As the healthcare landscape rapidly evolves, it is more important than ever for industry leaders and healthcare

providers to embrace new ideas and approaches. By working with startups, these players can leverage the latest technologies and insights to develop new treatments, improve patient care, and increase efficiency.

This year’s challenges are released in cooperation with GSK, Abbott, Takeda, Siemens Healthineers, Beurer, Aidian, Qiagen and 4 hospitals associated with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa”.

Since its founding in 2016, Innovation in Health has helped forge more than 30 partnerships across the industry. And now you could be one of them.

Who’s it for?

The Challenges are open to startups whose product/technology matches the challenge objectives. Taking part doesn’t assume equity or IP involvement.

Selected startups will take part in a 4-module structured process, which includes one-to-one pitch training and partnership exploration meetings.

Applications are open here until 16 April 2023!

In addition, interested teams can register for the webinar taking place on March 29th to learn more about the process.
