Edinburgh’s Topolytics tops up expansion plans with €1.7 million

Data analytics platform Topolytics is tackling the world’s waste problem. The Edinburgh-based startup has just secured €1.7 million to support international growth.

Waste is a worryingly fast-growing problem impacting countries right across the globe. Poor waste management is an active contributor to climate change and is responsible for pollution, emissions, and, damaging consequences for habitats, societies and ecosystems. It impacts us on a global scale, and vulnerable communities tend to be hit with the worst impacts.

Based in Edinburgh, Topolytics sits at the intersection of waste management, the circular economy, digital tech and data to address the growing waste problem. The company has just secured fresh investment to launch its innovative WasteMap solution internationally.

Funding details

  • About €1.7 million (£1.5 million) was raised in fresh investment
  • The funding comes from high-net-worth investors and a grant from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
  • Includes both UK and US-based backing

Founded in Edinburgh, Topolytics’ data platform makes waste visible, verifiable and valuable. Its WasteMap® platform generates insights for waste producers, recyclers and government, that enable greater materials recovery, drive operational efficiencies, support investment strategies, enhance ESG reporting and reduce carbon emissions.

Michael Groves, CEO of Topolytics: “Topolytics has a growing global reputation for the insights available through our WasteMap® platform.  It helps waste producers and recyclers to drive resource and cost efficiencies, to trace the movement of waste and measure their impact, whilst validating performance and improving the quality and reliability of ESG and carbon reporting.  It is a privilege to be working with some leading players in their sectors, UK and international businesses alike, that see great commercial and environmental benefit from taking a fresh look at waste.”

The solution is quickly becoming the data platform of choice for waste producers and the waste sector to process and analyse complex waste ‘supply chain’ data across multiple sites, regions and countries. It aggregates data from different sources, like spreadsheets and satellites, to generate a higher degree of confidence in the waste system.

With this new investment, the company plans to accelerate the development of the platform and step up international expansion plans.

Jane Stewart, Director of Topolytics: “Topolytics is delighted to secure investment from high-net-worth investors who bring significant depth of experience in globally scaling data analytics and software businesses.  It’s a privilege to get the backing of such high calibre individuals from both sides of the Atlantic to support our international growth.”
