The European startup ecosystem is full of interesting and exciting news, twists and turns. From big funding announcements, duocorns picking up pace, to new partnerships and conscious collaborations – there’s never a dull day!

This week, new developments in FoodTech, the PR firm taking mental wellbeing seriously, climate collaborations and the social enterprise gym community wanting to give back to the community.

Launches and Expansions

  • Vgarden, a FoodTech startup developing plant-based alternatives, launched its very own vegan tinned tuna. The 100% plant-derived product has the same appearance, texture, and flavour as the canned kitchen staple. The tuna analog is crafted to satisfy the appetites of the growing pool of sustainability-driven consumers by bringing to the table its creative response to the issue of the overfished and rapidly declining ocean populations of wild tuna.
  • 1oT, the telecom-independent cellular connectivity provider for IoT applications, shared plans to expand to the US.
  • pH3 Capital Ventures launched its Beyond Blue Accelerator, the UK’s first funded accelerator providing investment for startups in the wider ports and maritime sector. A key part of BBA’s mission, and with the full support of Maritime UK, is to promote diversity within the space.
  • Project Eaden unveiled its innovative fibre technology to produce ultra-realistic plant-based meat. It exactly recreates the texture and appearance of animal meat and is also scalable, enabling the production of large quantities at low cost.

Acquisitions and Partnerships

  • CMS provider Storyblok shared that personal transformation company Mindvalley has launched digital experiences with Storyblok’s CMS resulting in a 50% cut in development time and a 2x faster time to market in 8 languages.
  • Watershed, a leading enterprise climate platform, announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Frontier, the advance market commitment to accelerate the development of permanent carbon removal technologies. The partnership will broaden access to climate-critical permanent carbon removal technologies by enabling buy-in for Watershed customers at a wider range of commitment sizes.
  • Digital transformation and software specialist, Amdaris, and cloud financial management (FinOps) company, Strategic Blue, announced a new partnership to provide a better way for customers to manage and scale their cloud infrastructure. Combining forces, Amdaris and Strategic Blue will help companies to modernise their cloud infrastructure and maximise ROI.
  • Cover Genius has teamed up with HomeToGo to simplify the short-term rental experience with comprehensive embedded protection. The partnership will help provide an extra layer of flexibility with seamless protection to enhance the vacation rental booking experience. It’s now available in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
  • Ethical flower businesses Arena Online acquired and merged with Patch Gardens, a leading pant delivery business. The acquisition builds upon Arena’s best-in-class fulfilment and technology platform, Hyperion™.
  • Property consultant firm Flude partnered with anti-money laundering tech platform First AML, and will now be able to provide ‘peace of mind’ against strict HMRC money laundering compliance regulations and save time.
  • Huobi Global, one of the world’s leading virtual asset exchanges, announced a partnership with Solaris, to deliver a crypto-to-fiat debit card that will enable Huobi users to spend digital assets at the point-of-sale globally.

Milestones and Insights

  • In less than a month, TA-DAAN‘s crowdfunding campaign has been backed by more than 90 investors and raised over €700k.
  • Barcelona-based community network Les Amis celebrated its first anniversary. The online platform connects women with curated social events and activities. The platform offers things like painting classes, wine tasting and psychology classes, all aiming to better connect people and make lasting friendships.
  • Ambler, the French medical mobility startup which digitalizes healthcare transportation, won an important tender to implement its medical transportation optimization tool to 7 dialysis centres in the east of France (Alsace)
  • PR agency Lem-uhn introduced Wellness Days to encourage all employees to prioritise self-care when necessary. The London-based PR agency’s policy allows employees to book two wellness days a year at just a day’s notice. Employees are welcome to use the days how they please whether it’s for a much-needed day to rest or to go for a massage. The policy aims to boost employees’ mental well-being and productivity by taking time away from work when needed, which is increasingly necessary during the cold, dark months.
  • Prommt, a leading payment request platform, announced an increase in customer adoption by achieving a key milestone over the Christmas period with 3 million payment requests sent to customers across many industry sectors in their home markets within Europe.
  • Social enterprise community gym concept Storm LDN is targeting a raise of about €2.2 million to scale the until-now self-funded business to ten strategic sites across London by the end of 2025. The primary ambition for Storm LDN has been to create a formal pathway to give back to the communities they grew up in, and to help youths from underprivileged backgrounds enjoy a better start and equal opportunity in life.
  • Filter-free social media app Frog revealed an exciting refresh of its app, to continue its mission of encouraging its Gen Z users to share authentic content with friends. Frog’s four million users can now benefit from the innovative app experience when sharing unfiltered real-life video and picture content with friends.
