Barcelona-based Yumminn just raised €1.4 million for its QR code that’s changing how we pay the bill at restaurants

The fast-growing Spanish startup Yumminn has just picked up €1.4 million in fresh capital for its web app solution spicing up the restaurant industry. The Barcelona-based firm now plans to expand and become a leader in QR-enabled payments.

Heading out for a fancy dinner, brunch with friends or just a quick lunch is a pastime we all enjoy. What we might enjoy less, though, is when it comes to paying. From firstly trying to get the waiter’s attention to figuring out how to split the bill, to then paying it and leaving a tip (or not) – it can all become a bit of a process. Indeed, it’s a process that hasn’t changed for decades.

That is, until now. The restaurant industry is starting to digitize and Spanish startup, Yumminn, has a new solution to offer – one that takes away the need to talk to your waiter after enjoying your food and can make life a little easier. The Barcelona-based team has just raised €1.4 million in a seed round.

The funding was led by Oryon Universal and Antai Venture Builder. Seven Roots also participated, alongside other business angels.

Founded in 2021, Yumminn is a mobile web app solution for dine-in, integrated with point of sale (POS) systems, that allows restaurant customers to self-checkout in seconds from their phones. Users simply scan a QR code at the table, review their bill and then split, tip, pay and review in a matter of seconds.

As one user has said – “It’s perfect! I don’t even have to awkwardly talk to someone. I just eat and leave.”

What sets Yumminn apart is that everyone can access the software. Restaurant customers simply scan a QR code with their phone, they don’t need to have an app or print anything out. There’s no faff.

By using the software, restaurant staff can spend more time in service-improving activities, increasing their tips, improving table turnover and enhancing the customer experience. It’s been reported by the startup that existing customers are finding that by using Yumminn, table turnover has increased by 6% and tips increased by 55%.

Currently, participating restaurants include some top eateries, including the delicious Lilo Brunch in Barcelona. In places like this, the already-delightful experience is heightened as the staff can spend even more time attending to customers, impressing with top service and cooking up tasty dishes.

Now, with this funding, the Barcelona-based startup continues its mission to become a leader in this market and expand.
