Paris-based TakeTurns raises €3 million to improve professional collaboration

Making it easier for professionals to collaborate and enhance work productivity and output in the process, Paris and Boston-based startup TakeTurns has just scooped up €3 million. The funding will help develop the startup’s collaboration tool internationally.

Teamwork makes the dream work – that’s the old saying. But, as teams go remote and international, and, we start to use digital documents, files and tools – team collaboration has changed slightly. We’re now more accustomed than ever before to working with teams and professionals outside of the office and digital tools have no doubt streamlined business operations.

It’s not always so simple, though, and most professionals can relate to the feeling of not knowing who is working on what document and when. Aiming to make collaboration more harmonious, internationally-based startup TakeTurns has just raised €3 million.

The funding

The €3 million seed funding was led by Elaia. It’ll be used to develop the startup’s roadmap, as well as accelerate its recruitment plan in both France and the US.

The tool will implement a freemium model and offer both free and paid plans in 42 countries.

Armelle de Tinguy, Investment Director at Elaia: “After the great success of Orchestra Networks (acquired by TIBCO Software in 2018), we are delighted to support Christophe in his new adventure once again. We were impressed by the vision and ambition of TakeTurns: to revolutionize external collaboration between companies via an approach centered on the product and the user experience. TakeTurns effectively responds to the growing security needs and the challenges of ever-increasing and complex collaborations. That said, the TakeTurns team is undoubtedly its most valuable asset. Christophe and Mickael’s experience and execution-oriented mindset will enable them to realize their ambitious vision. We are very happy to support them in this first step”

Easier collaboration

Founded in 2021 by Christophe Barriolade, CEO, and Mickael Chevalier, CTO, the US/French startup helps teams to quite literally take turns with digital documents and files, enabling better collaboration and teamwork.

The mission is to help professionals better connect and work with the outside world, tapping into the growing trend of remote work and outsourcing. The platform allows users to collaborate turn-by-turn with external parties on documents and files.

Co-founder and CEO Christophe Barriolade explained: “When working with an external party (customer, supplier, partner, etc.) on documents or files, everyone falls back on email exchanges because no one uses the same applications. Who hasn’t suffered from those email threads where it is impossible to know who is doing what, where is the latest version of a document, or who is really participating? This is one of the reasons why professionals spend up to a third of their time in their inbox.”

The product has been built with professionals–such as freelancers, lawyers, accountants, salespeople, marketing managers, or consultants–that need to work with external parties in mind. All professionals can use TakeTurns from independent/sole proprietors to enterprises.

The application allows for a simple, transparent and reliable way to share requests, or review documents and files and can integrate with existing tools in the tech stack.

Alongside the mission to improve collaborative processes, the startup is also aiming to make a societal difference. The founders and first employees of the startup have also developed a charitable association called giveaturn.org which aims to benefit children in need.

Mickael Chevalier, co-founder, and CTO of TakeTurns: “From the company’s start, we wanted to impact our communities positively. giveaturn.org carries out actions on the ground for children in need. We believe this will give additional meaning to the success of TakeTurns.”
