Launches, Partnerships & Expansions: Interesting startup milestones last week

The European startup ecosystem is full of interesting and exciting news, twists and turns. At EU-Startups, our aim is to keep you informed on everything that’s going on and share the inspiring entrepreneurial spirit this continent has to offer. From big funding announcements, duocorns picking up pace, to new partnerships and conscious collaborations – there’s never a dull day!

So, with this in mind, we decided to pull together all the big milestones that we saw this week into one place. It’s impossible for us to cover every announcement with an article, but perhaps this is one way we can continue to share as much as possible about up-and-coming innovators and ideas. 

This week, the robot bringing us the perfect portion of fries, the barbers on a mission to open up the conversation on men’s mental health, and how beeswax could be the key to cutting down plastic waste. 

Launches and Expansions

  • Eurora Solutions, the provider of a leading AI/ML backed cross-border trade compliance platform, announced the opening of an Innovation and Research Centre in Tartu, Estonia. 
  • Casper, the leading ghost kitchen chain in Belgium, opened its first Dutch locations in The Hague and Rotterdam.
  • TeamTap announced a new product called Jamie, an AI-powered personal assistant for business professionals that generates meeting summaries in business-writing quality within seconds using cutting-edge AI models.
  • One Hundred®’s very first equity crowdfunding campaign, via the Crowdcube platform, went live to the public. The startup is aiming to change mountain trail running with new events to connect athletes around the globe with the most challenging routes..
  •  Mindtech, developer of a leading synthetic data creation platform, announced its data pack offering for customers who are looking to build AI-based vision systems in a faster and more cost-effective way.
  • Paris-based Bigblue, a Shopify-like order fulfilment platform, unveiled its UK expansion plans.- including warehouses and the hiring of hundreds of workers in the Birmingham, UK area over the next five years. 
  • Polish grocery marketplace fyrtel.market launched into its fourth city – Berlin.The app gives local grocery shops and local food merchants the ability to access ecommerce, bringing them the world of last-mile delivery with its app and cargo bike delivery service. 
  • Mioo, a growing Swedish biking app that connects bikers with bike servicing (aka BikeBuddies) shared their European growth plans, with France and Germany as key markets. 
  • UK-based Aeropowder has launched a fresh crowdfunding campaign for their circular economy business, aiming to raise £150k for the international expansion of Pluumo – a unique thermal packaging made from surplus feathers that is designed to replace expanded polystyrene.

Acquisitions and Collaborations

  • A2MAC1, a provider of benchmarking solutions across the automotive industry, and TECOSIM, a specialist in computer-aided engineering, have joined forces to offer unique synergies driving significant value for their customers.
  • Disruptor of the micromobility sector, HumanForest, became part of Yonder’s member rewards to further access to sustainable travel around London.
  • Brytlyt, the accessible deep learning platform, has selected TurinTech, the code optimisation company, as its partner to unify data science and business intelligence and streamline the model development process for customers.
  • Printful has partnered with Pietra, an ecommerce business platform, to unlock new customizable and branded product opportunities for over 60,000 creators. 
  • Climate tech and web3 startup Thallo and BioCarbon Registry, announced that they will team up to create the world’s first two-way bridge between a registry and the blockchain. This process aims to reduce the barriers between potential buyers looking for high-quality Verified Carbon Credits (VCC) from nature-based solutions projects.
  • Leeds Beckett University has become the first University to partner with Unibeez, a UK-based ‘on-demand’ student recruitment platform that connects the nation’s talent-hungry businesses with ambitious students and graduates across the country.
  • Oveit, the tech company that offers online ticketing and live experiences solutions, is now partnering with Humans.ai to support the development of cutting-edge technologies. Artificial intelligence-powered NFTs are the company’s next big priority.
  • B2B fintech platform Finom is teaming up with Salt Edge to leverage PSD2 possibilities for SMEs and professionals all over Europe. After recently having obtained the EMI licence in the Netherlands, the company now becomes PSD2 compliant with Salt Edge and is set to further expand across Europe. 
  • Barcelona-based Heura is partnering with SV Babelsberg 03, a German football club, to launch in the country and bring meat successors to more people in Europe. 
  • Shopify sellers now have access to a new app – Match2One. The platform enables merchants to automate their campaigns and make the most of spend as they face the challenge of a weaker economy
  • Clinical Microbiomics acquired MS-Omics, making the startup a leading metabolomics provider.

Other Milestones & Insights 

  •  Hyperion Lab kicked off its third cohort with the goal of advancing society by making AI explainable and approachable. Eight new startups want to improve the world with AI. Six of the participants focus on healthcare, such as AI applications for the heart, skin and the discovery of early-stage brain disorders. The program also includes a startup with cleantech for a circular economy.
  • TrimCheck, a British startup offering Uber-like haircuts is running a mental health awareness campaign this Halloween. Selected barbers on their platform will be delivering haircuts in superhero costumes on the 31st of October to commemorate the role that barbers play in men’s mental well-being.
  •  Slovakian startup Peelo raised a pre-seed funding round for its sustainable beeswax food packaging  – a reusable, washable and zero-waste substitute of single-use plastics which keeps food fresh longer. To take this product from local small-scale production to retail shelves, the team designed and developed a unique technology that automates the production process, speeds it up 10x, and can currently produce over 1/4 of a million units a year. 
  • UK-based fintech Plum raised £1million in just 8 hours of crowdfunding
  • With market analysts predicting a 158% increase in people using coworking offices over the next two years, Business Name Generator has analysed 53 global locations looking at availability, average monthly cost, internet speed, and search volume data to determine the best cities for coworking and London comes out on top.
  • UK deeptech startup, Karakuri unveiled a new intelligent robot to make the perfect portion of french fries. It represents a vision for the future of food that puts intelligent automation into our favourite restaurant kitchens.
  • Topolytics, an award-winning data analytics platform that makes the world’s waste visible, verifiable and valuable, was selected as a winner in the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Sustainable Smart Factory competition, where it has been awarded funding to help improve energy efficiency, productivity and the sustainability of manufacturing processes.
  • STOKR,  a digital investment marketplace for alternative assets, has received VASP registration by Luxembourg financial regulator CSSF (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier). STOKR is now the first digital securities issuance platform outside of the US to have exchange integrations with regulated securities trading venues, able to independently conduct Know Your Customer (KYC)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks on the investors investing in digital securities.
  • Kwayga, an online matching platform for national and international B2B buyers and suppliers within the food and beverage industry, has announced that it will be offering one-year free premium membership to its platform to Ukrainian food and beverage suppliers as a way of supporting the industry during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
  • Manner Sache, a German men’s skincare startup brand that uses 100% active ingredients, launched its mission to help men regain their confidence and boost self-esteem. 
  •  elasticStage, a British on-demand vinyl platform revealed a new London HQ from which it’ll house its revolutionary, patent-pending tech set to shake up the vinyl market
  • Leanspace was awarded a multi-million euro funding deal to lead a consortium for the Hammaguir project, which will help launch providers stay competitive in the global market by enabling them to build the modern, cloud software ecosystems they need.
