Swedish travel tech startup Acamp picks up €2.5 million for its campsite marketplace

Stockholm-based Acamp has just raised €2.5 million for its travel tech platform dedicated to camping enthusiasts. The funding was led by Spintop Ventures, with participation from LRF Ventures as well as existing investor Centripetal Capital.

Acamp was founded in 2020 by Paul Berggren and Öjje Holt, who wanted to create a marketplace that makes it easy for campers to find and book great places to camp. Born out of frustration with traditional campsites, the vision was to build a platform where private hosts and business owners can list unutilized land and curated experiences for campers to book.

With Acamp, campers can find, book, and pay all in one place. It also enables landowners to utilise unused land by renting it out to the growing camping market, giving them the chance to earn some extra money. Hosts can also increase revenue by selling different products and experiences directly to the campers.

The travel industry, in general, is bouncing back, and camping is a key trend in the market to keep an eye on this year. The demand for sustainable, nature-based, low-impact and environmentally friendly vacations is booming across Europe. More and more of us are looking for these vacations that don’t require the necessity of flying far and spending too much money. Camping vacations are more popular than ever and with Acamps’ platform, a network of hosts can keep growing to keep up with demand and localise the experience.

Founder Öjje Holt commented: “We are thrilled by the surging popularity and interest for sustainable tourism, and are fully committed to connecting people with unique places to stay in nature”.

The travel tech startup is now looking at an exciting year ahead, having already transitioned to a Nordic venture with expansions to Norway and Denmark as part of the mission to become the biggest campsite marketplace in Northern Europe. The fresh funds will be used to accelerate growth and expand operations.

The next phase will also include an expansion of the Clean Camping initiative developed in close cooperation with Håll Sverige Rent (Keep Sweden Tidy) and its sister organisations in Denmark and Norway.

Isabel Nilson at Spintop Ventures said: “We are beyond impressed with the founders of Acamp who through their true passion for camping have built a rapidly growing platform with a highly engaged camper community. With the founders’ track record of scaling startups into global organizations, we envision Acamp becoming a game-changer for the campground industry”.
