Warsaw-based digital healthcare unicorn Docplanner acquires Munich-based Jameda

The global online healthcare marketplace Docplanner, which was founded in 2012, is a leading provider of SaaS solutions for doctors and clinics. The Polish unicorn has just acquired Munich-based Jameda from Hubert Burda Media.

With a vision to make healthcare experiences more human, Docplanner creates digital apps and software solutions for doctors, clinics, hospitals and patients to enable the healthcare system and patient journey to integrate seamlessly. With free doctor reviews and instant online appointment booking for patients through its online marketplaces, Docplanner has a network of almost 2 million healthcare professionals, serves over 100,000 customers globally and operates in more than 12 countries.

Docplanner was founded in 2012 in Poland and now boasts a team of more than 1,800 based across offices in Warsaw, Barcelona, Istanbul, Rome, Mexico City, Curitiba and Bologna. It is backed by leading venture capital funds including Point Nine Capital, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and One Peak Partners, raising a total of approximately €300 million to date.

Jameda was founded in Munich with the goal to digitally connect patients and physicians more efficiently. The healthcare platform offers tools for patients to find the best physicians, easily book appointments, and see their provider in person or via video consultation.

One of Germany’s leading physician-patient platforms, Jameda partners with about 20,000 doctors and attracts 8 million patients to its platform monthly which will be a significant addition to Docplanner’s existing global client base of 110,000 doctors and nearly 70 million monthly patients.

As part of the acquisition, Docplanner will invest significant capital and global expertise into Jameda and will focus on rapidly growing the company’s sales, customer care and marketing teams. Docplanner has big ambitions for Germany and will add more than 200 new team members to Jameda, investing more than a quarter of a billion euros in the German market over the next 2 to 3 years. Docplanner also expects to deliver even better solutions to the market by combining the best elements of both companies products.

Docplanner founder and CEO, Mariusz Gralewski, said: “Docplanner was founded on the mission of making the healthcare experience more human. We view this as the perfect opportunity to enter the very important German market and positively impact the healthcare ecosystem. We are confident that the Jameda team has both unparalleled experience and the drive to win the market. We are super excited to work with the Jameda team in the years ahead and build even more amazing products for patients and doctors in Germany.

The acquisition marks another entry into a new geography for Docplanner, since they opened local operations in Mexico and Brazil in 2017. The company also has leading market positions in Italy, Spain, Turkey and in its home market, Poland, giving it the broadest geographic reach in the digital healthcare space globally.

The acquisition of Jameda, which will be fully effective from 1 January 2022, is the next step in Docplanner’s growth strategy. The company has demonstrated strong organic performance combined with a history of successful acquisitions as part of its global expansion efforts. It has made six other acquisitions to date, including TuoTempo in Italy (2019), Doctoralia in Spain (2016) and Eniyihekim (now Doktortakvimi) in Turkey (2014).
