The EIT Health Catapult Semi-Finals 2021 will take place as an online event from the 1st – 3rd December. This exciting competition showcases the best healthcare startups in Europe, giving a considerable boost to the up-and-coming names in the arena. It also resulted in many solid investment opportunities for healthcare investors over the past six years.
The EIT Health Catapult competition set out to find and support the most promising healthcare startups Europe has to offer. The competition has a track record of selecting very high quality startups that are ready for investments. For investors interested in healthtech, the upcoming EIT Health Catapult Semi-Finals are a great opportunity to meet the innovators and disruptors in this space. Apart from the pitches, the event will also offer great keynotes and networking opportunities within the EIT Health community.
The 42 startups selected for the semi-final stage, are getting several hours of individualized training with senior industry executives, before pitching in front of a carefully selected investor jury from the 1st-3rd December.
The successful startups benefit from a generous prize fund, including prize money and in-kind sponsor prizes adding up to a total value of €1 million. Sponsors of the prize fund include AstraZeneca, Amazon Web Services, eg technology, Lusiadas Saude, Merck, McDermott Will & Emery, and Nasdaq. Nasdaq also displays the winner of the Audience Award on the Nasdaq tower in Times Square, NY, every year.
The EIT Health Catapult has a proven track record of sourcing and boosting Europe’s best healthtech startups. Over the last 6 years, the programme has supported about 250 companies, of which 98% are still in operation. These companies have closed investment rounds of millions of euros after participating in the programme.
Previous winners have gone on to achieve significant success. The 2019 winner of the Biotech category, Sparing Vision, raised €44.5 million in investment to further its gene therapy for chronic ocular diseases, just nine months after winning the competition.
Another notable success has been PhagoMed, which achieved 2nd place in the 2020 Biotech category. This innovative company, which develops synthetic lysin technology for precision antimicrobial treatments, has since been acquired by BioNTech.
