Italy-based EpiCura lands €5 million for its digital health platform

EpiCura, one of the first digital health platforms in Italy that brings health and social care services to the user’s home via phone and video consultations and long-term elderly care, has closed its third capital raise. With this €5 million funding round, EpiCura has achieved a total funding of approximately €8million.

Founded in 2017, Epicura offers a nationwide network of professionals and facilities, including a state-of-the-art, customized booking model that allows all patients to book and receive services in less than 24 hours, 7 days a week, wherever they need them. So far, EpiCura has been chosen by over 3,000 families all over Italy, with a satisfaction rate close to 100%, and is present in over 10+ cities in the region.

Thanks to this new funding round, the startup has significant new shareholders onboard. The round is led by Europ Assistance, a leading private care company which is part of Gruppo Generali. Europ Assistance is also joining EpiCura as an industrial partner to bring the startup’s social and health care servicesto its customers at a national level. Alongside Europ Assistance, other new investors are linked to the Ersel network, a specialist in asset management, and additionally existing angel investors and Club degli Investitori were part of the round.

Thanks to the fresh funds, EpiCura will be able to continue its agenda to innovate the traditional sector of social and health care, which iit states is not very flexible or responsive to the needs of patients and family caregivers. In December 2020 the startup brought a new solution in long-term elderly care to the market including night caregivers, continuous care and cohabiting caregivers, in addition to its management of all the bureaucratic tasks of induction and recruitment. Since its launch, EpiCura has worked alongside over 3,000 families and provided over 31,000 hours of services.

The new funding will allow EpiCura to continue its national expansion by adding accessibility in new key cities, offering new services and investing in the evolution of its digital health platform, the system’s point of access for all customers.

“In a social and market context that has made it clear to everyone that home medical care is a solution to the multiple needs of Italian families that also lightens the load of public hospitals, EpiCura has not only found confirmation of its vision but also added incentives to provide a more complete and efficient offer. This has been recognized by the new partners who are joining our capital,” commented Gianluca Manitto, CEO and Co-Founder of EpiCura. “We are extremely proud to be able to contribute with our services and complement the support that an operator of the caliber of Europ Assistance offers to its millions of customers. Thanks to Europ Assistance, we will have the opportunity to expand our business and also confirm the trust of investors who have believed in us since our inception.”

“The combination of financial and industrial investors in this operation is perfect. In addition to welcoming the new and important shareholders who have invested in our growth, we would also like very much to thank our initial investors who periodically continue to renew their trust, thus affirming the company’s ability to execute its plans. These are all very encouraging signs for us which reinforce our commitment to implement a major development plan. With the new financial resources, in addition to strengthening the growth of the team, we will continue to innovate our digital health platform and promote its availability in new cities with home care and video consulting services, enabling more efficient and rapid accessibility,” added Alessandro Ambrosio, CEO and Co-Founder of EpiCura.

Fabio Carsenzuola, CEO of Europ Assistance, concluded: “Home care is an area in which Europ Assistance is very committed, with a particular focus on the elderly and chronically ill people. We know how the pandemic has made it even more necessary to be able to access medical care without necessarily having to go to health facilities. We work to always offer the simplest and most effective access to care. With this operation we want to strengthen our presence both in home care and in access to qualified medical advice via teleconsultation, true to our promise to ‘live and work well at home’. Both on the operational front and in terms of values, we were immediately in complete agreement with EpiCura: just like us, they focus on innovation and technology, but the human relationship remains fundamental. We are certain that the partnership with this young and dynamic company will enable us to guarantee our customers solutions that are increasingly in line with their needs”.
