Glovo announces new wine, beer and spirits delivery thanks to partnership with Pernod Ricard

It looks like 2020 will indeed be a fruitful year for Barcelona-based on-demand delivery startup Glovo. Today Glovo announces a new partnership with Pernod Ricard, the world’s number two wine and spirits producer, to further develop its drinks category.

Are you wondering if this new deal will allow you to order a beverage in your city? Then you are in luck. The new service will be rolled out across all of Glovo’s 22 markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. This new boost to its delivery service has been announced in time to gather traction before the summer months, when no doubt its activity will skyrocket with users ordering drinks for beach visits, park gatherings and more frequent get-togethers.

Oscar Pierre, CEO and co-founder of Glovo, said: “We’re very proud to be partnering with Pernod Ricard, one of the world’s biggest beverage companies. They’re the perfect partner for us and will help us further expand our exciting drinks category. At Glovo we’re always looking to partner with category leaders that complement our groceries offerings and share our ambition to make shopping more convenient than ever before for the customer.”

With 72% of spirits now consumed off-trade and in-home, Glovo is taking a leading position in this market, offering a wide range of premium wines, spirits, beers and lagers, which can be ordered in the same way as its food and groceries delivery via the app. There will be an added element, though; where alcoholic drinks are concerned, couriers are being trained to ID customers that appear underage on delivery.

Pierre-Yves Calloc’h, Global Digital Acceleration Director at Pernod Ricard, said: “Glovo’s quality of service, their commitment to ensure products are delivered only to adults of legal drinking age, and their rapid international expansion provide a convenient way for millions of potential consumers to get home delivery of their favourite brands such as Absolut Vodka, Jameson Irish Whiskey, or Olmeca Tequila across many cities around the world.”

As Glovo continues to accelerate its growth into new markets at an electric rate, the Spanish unicorn is grabbing the headlines again and again. Having just raised Series D funding and averaging launching in a new city every 4 days, this is the perfect time to hear about their growth strategy. Join us as we dive into the learnings of Co-Founder Oscar Pierre, who will be joining us for a fireside chat, at the EU-Startups Summit on 28-29 May, in Barcelona.
