Ontruck, the digital road freight platform, today announces the acquisition of Briver, from Wtransnet, the leading freight and vehicle exchange in Iberia.
With a particularly strong presence in Cataluña, digital freight broker Briver will help to consolidate Ontruck’s leadership across the Iberia region and bolster capacity during the end-of-year holiday rush (Black Friday, Christmas). Both brands will continue to run independently, under common leadership, with no operational changes for clients of either brand.
Ontruck, founded in Madrid in 2016, is a digital road freight platform that uses technologies to reduce the number of empty kilometers travelled by goods vehicles, making road transportation efficient for both truckers and companies. With offices in Madrid, London, Paris, and Amsterdam, Ontruck has previously received the support of several investors including Atomico, Cathay Innovation, Idinvest Partners, Point 9 Capital, Samaipata Ventures, All Iron Ventures, Total Energy Ventures and GP Bullhound, as well as closed three rounds of financing worth €36.2 million.
Briver was launched in 2018 in Cataluña as part of Wtransnet’s exchange platform, which connects more than 11,000 transportation companies across 33 countries. Briver uses technology to connect shippers and carriers seamlessly, offering real-time visibility to make road freight more efficient and significantly reducing the number of empty kilometers traveled by carriers on roads. In just over a year, Briver has established a trusted reputation across Cataluña, generating value for both carriers and shippers.
“Cataluña is a key market for road freight at a European level, representing almost 10% of the road transportation business in Spain. We are excited to continue expanding our market leadership with Briver and to work together to deliver the best service across Cataluña. We value Briver’s shared commitment to excellence and vision of bringing technology and transparency to the industry” explains Iñigo Juantegui, CEO and co-founder of Ontruck.
This timely acquisition will be beneficial in the weeks leading up to the holidays, as demand for vehicles increases by over 40% during this period, kicking off with Black Friday in late November and continuing through to Christmas. In particular, the collaboration will bolster Ontruck’s capacity to meet the demand of the Christmas rush by increasing the vehicles available for shipments by 20% in Cataluña. This is also anticipated to drive a 15% growth in business volume for the company.
