As Apple CEO Tim Cook recently remarked – you don’t need a four-year degree to become proficient in coding. The Barcelona-based coding school Codeworks is proof of this, boasting a 100% hiring rate for graduates.
Codeworks’ mission is to empower smart people to become successful software engineers, regardless of their gender or background. Every day they work to make high quality education more accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding. Codeworks is looking to work with creative spirits, independent thinkers, underdogs, the resolute, the indefatigable, the fighters, and the true believers. Are you one of them, and are you interested in becoming a great coder? New courses start every seven weeks – apply now to join its next cohort of highly-motivated students, and receive a special discount through EU-Startups (see below).
In February 2019, Luca graduated from Codeworks. He switched from business administration to full-stack developer, getting a job four weeks after completing the program. As he describes in his review, “My three months at Codeworks have been very intense and despite the stress, every day I was fully conscious that it was totally worth it. The pace is vigorous but you will never feel lost because you will have the support of your instructors, your teaching assistants, and your classmates. The student selection process really works well, and your classmates will be some of the most driven, motivated and knowledgeable people you will ever meet.”
To get a better understanding of Codeworks’ impact, we asked their CEO Alessandro Zanardi to share some success stories. He gave the following four examples:
- Nadia joined us from London in Jan 2017, she graduated after 3 months and got hired by IMG Media to start their mobile native department. Fast forward to present, she is leading a group of 5 developers, all of them hired from Codeworks.
- Manel from Barcelona was working as an accountant before joining Codeworks, and now is a lead developer in London.
- Amy was an administrative assistant for a Canadian startup. She decided to switch careers and she’s now a full-stack developer in Barcelona.
- Andrea from Italy was working as a mechanic (car repair) and now he’s a mid-level developer at an insurance broker in Milan.
Special offer for EU-Startups readers: With the promo code HELLOEU19 you’ll get a €500 discount if you pass all the stages of the selection process. And if you’re a women, we have even better news for you. If you pass all the selection stages you’ll get a 10% discount upfront on top of the €500 discount – which is a really good deal. (Please note, the discount code will only be valid if applied at the partnership code field in the application form, and expires at the end of 2019.)
Timing: The next start date to join Codeworks in Barcelona is for the batch that begins on July 22. The application deadline and selection process depends on your coding skills and how much time you have to dedicate to selection process. But we recommend to send your application about 1.5 months before the beginning of the desired batch. So if you’d be interested to start in July you should apply as soon as possible. Actually, NOW! 🙂
How the selection process works: First there will be an intro chat on Hangouts (to get to know each other, no preparation needed), once you pass this step you will need to take the tech interview on Hangouts (1 hour call with one of the Codeworks instructors). In order to prepare for the interview, here are some study materials. Depending on your coding skills, it will take you between 1-2 weeks to prepare. If you pass this step then you’ll be able to do a coding assignment (1-2 weeks). Once passed, you’ll pay the deposit and start the pre-course, which usually takes 4-5 week part-time, remotely. The three month main course is the heart of the Codeworks system and will take place in Barcelona. And it has the potential to really kick of your career in tech. Interested? Apply now!
According to Codeworks CEO Alessandro Zanardi they have a 100% hiring rate of their students (this is how they measure it). Their students work as software engineers at big companies and successful startups, like eDreams, Glovo, and Tidal.
“As a team we do tons of things to make sure that our students are happy and succeed,” said Zanardi. “At the end of each course we organize a ‘Career Day’ where we invite leading companies (locally and internationally) to get to know and interview our students. After the course our graduates become part of the Codeworks family, where they have access to an ever expanding network of companies and partners. Each Codeworks student gets life-long (yes, life-long) career advice and support to keep growing their professional success. These are just a few examples, but the leading principle is that our success is only a reflection of the success of our students. We are here to empower them to reach their full potential, often beyond what they imagine before they start the course.”
