The 5 coolest coworking spaces in Málaga

Are you starting to freeze up there in Northern Europe? Well, if you’re a digital nomad, or otherwise have a flexible work schedule, consider taking a trip to Málaga, that sunny tip of southern Europe. Here, the temperature has kept steady at about 22 degrees during the first week of December. The Mediterranean Sea is a short walk from all points in the city, and some (brave) sources maintain that one can continue swimming through January. Situated on Spain’s famous Costa Del Sol, Málaga has transformed over the years into a vibrant cultural centre. Among its attractions are its well-preserved Roman theatre, its Moorish Alcazaba, the Picasso Museum (the artist was born here), its many festivals and religious processions, and its thriving street art. Aside from that, you can lay back and enjoy cheap tapas on its pedestrian-only streets.

As they say, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. Andalusians, with their abundance of sunshine and friendliness, are famously laid-back, with many continuing to observe 20-minute to 2-hour siestas each day after a long lunch with family and friends. And so when you’re in Málaga, keep in mind their philosophy: “We work to live, we don’t live to work”.

So take it easy and go to the beach on your lunch break – an easy walk from one of its growing number of coworking spaces. Yes, even in January!

thelivingroomThe Living Room: With 120 workers representing 25 different nationalities, The Living Room is perhaps Málaga’s most popular coworking space. With two locations right in the city’s centre, you won’t have any trouble getting there. Regulars are given 24/7 access to the space, which includes a kitchen, private meeting room, and a ping-pong table downstairs. What sets The Living Room apart is its emphasis on community: it hosts monthly Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF) events, in which someone from the TLR family gives a presentation on a topic or project of relevance to the community – followed by music, beer, networking, and often a dinner and after-party somewhere in the centre; monthly Feedback Feast lunches for the community to talk about what could be improved about the space; as well as Mastermind Breakfasts, hiking trips, and other activities. Full-time desks cost €165/month (+IVA), while part-time desks (80 hours/month), cost €125. If you’re only going to stay in Málaga a short time, you can get a pass for €90/week.

I-CampusInnovation Campus Coworking: I-Campus Coworking Málaga provides 24/7 coworking space in the centre of Málaga, with over 50 desks, two meeting rooms, private offices, and a chill out area. I-Campus also offers courses such as “The Fundamentals of Selling” and “Web Marketing”, workshops, as well as events to help you network and expand your business. The centre also provides co-living and relocation support for people moving to the city. I-Campus is also organizing Málaga Startup Weekend, which will take place on the 15th-17th of March 2019. English is the primary language spoken here, but many speak Spanish as well. You can try one day free, after that a full time pass is €145/month (+IVA), but a week is just €65.

growworkingGrow Working: Located by the train station a short walk from the centre, if you write ahead of time, you can try three days free. After that, a hot desk is €150/month (including IVA) for 120 hours, with access from 9am-8pm, while a fixed desk is €200/month, with 24/7 access, including storage space and the ability to print up to 600 pages. However, if you just plan on stopping by for the week, you can try their casual plan, and pay just €2/per hour. Amenities include coffee, storage space, a kitchen and relaxation room with a TV. Private offices are also available. If you want to practice your Spanish, this is a good place to go, as that’s the primary language spoken here.

coworkingmalagacentroCoworking Málaga Centro: This coworking space just opened a couple of months ago, with a location right in the heart of Málaga’s centre – a few minutes walk from most museums, the Roman theatre, the cathedral, dozens of restaurants, and hostels. A smaller space, it so far only has 15 desks. However, their prices are very reasonable: €140/month (+IVA) and €40/week if you want to work full time, or €90/month and €30/week if you just plan to work five hours per day. Amenities include free coffee and other drinks, and a meeting room with a TV and a whiteboard for presentations. English, Spanish, and German are spoken here.

beworkingBeWorking: This space offers some of the best prices in the city. A premium (big) desk costs just €95/month (+IVA), while a standard desk is €70/month, including 24/7 access and a personal key. If you’re just here for the week, a five day pass is only €20, and if you’re only in town for the day, you can rent a desk for just €1/hour. All plans include free coffee and pastries, unlimited use of the printer, and a free locker. The space also offers unlimited use of its meeting room, and a rest area. BeWorking is a bit farther out on the west side of the city, but the number 3 bus will take you there from the centre in about 25 minutes. However the location isn’t bad, either – it’s situated between two nice parks for when you want to take a break, is just two minutes from a major supermarket, and a twenty minute walk from the beach.
