Rocket Internet’s cleaning service ZipJet acquires London-based competitor Asteria Cleaners

ZipJet, a Rocket Internet company, makes its first acquisition, to enter the corporate dry cleaning and laundry market in the UK. The startup acquires Asteria Cleaners, a London-based competitor catering to corporate clients, with immediate effect. The financial terms of this deal have not been disclosed yet.

Asteria’s existing client base include banks and professional services firms such as Swiss bank UBS, with the acquisition adding more than 2,000 active users to the ZipJet platform. The acquisition sees ZipJet gain an even bigger stake in the UK’s £1 billion a year dry cleaning market.

As part of the acquisition, ZipJet welcomes the whole Asteria Cleaners team, including Asteria’s Founder and CEO, Anna Bondarenko. As ZipJet’s Head of Corporate, Anna will head up the expansion of the company’s B2B offering in London, Berlin and Paris. She will also oversee the migration of existing corporate and consumer clients from Asteria to the ZipJet platform.

Since entering the London market in November 2014, ZipJet has served 50,000 users (pre-acquisition) and has recently expanded its coverage by 40% to include areas such as Forest Hill and Greenwich.

Florian Färber, ZipJet’s Co-Founder and Managing Director, commented: “As London is one of the world’s most time-deprived metropolises, we feel it is our duty to give time back to the people of the British capital. By acquiring Asteria Cleaners, we are continuing to expand our footprint in the capital to help make laundry liberation a reality for millions more Londoners”.

ZipJet enables its customers to choose from a range of laundry and dry cleaning offerings via its app or website. A ZipJet driver will then arrive at the specified address with two bags – one for dry cleaning garments, the other for wash and fold items. Once processed, customer’s garments are then delivered clean and fresh at the scheduled time. Garments can be cleaned, ironed, folded and delivered to customers in as little as six hours from pick up. Check out the video below to learn more:
