Budapest-based ride sharing platform AutoHop has just been acquired by BlaBlaCar, a well known car sharing service from France (Update – July 2023: The startup seems to be no longer in business under this website, and we therefore deactivated the original link).
Paris-based scaleup BlaBlaCar was founded in 2007, and is well-known as a leading ridesharing service that’s taking Europe by storm; in total they raised over $100 million last year for expansion. AutoHop is now becoming a part of BlaBlaCar while remaining its local independence.
Istvan Heidekker, AutoHop’s cofounder, said: “BlaBlaCar ‘acqui-hired’ AutoHop, meaning that apart from adding active local ridesharing communities to the global platform the most important element of the acquisition was the local team. The AutoHop team will continue to serve members from Croatia, Serbia, Hungary and Romania and will be fully integrated into BlaBlaCar.”
He went on: “Also, the past two years were a great learning experience about how to build something from zero. We see BlaBlaCar as a global and contemporary school on how to build something with big impact. In the next year we look forward to this learning experience.”
