Paris-based private chef marketplace La Belle Assiette raises €1.3 million

La Belle Assiette, a Paris-based startup, today announced an angel round of € 1.3 million. This new financing round brings La Belle Assiette’s total funding to €1.7 million. According to the startup, the fresh capital will used to make key hires and fuel growth over the next 9-12 months.

Launched in Paris in 2013, La Belle Assiette is a marketplace for private chefs. Professional cooks, which are selected and tested by the company, prepare and serve meals in your home.

The company has already covered the French market and over the past 6 months has also opened in Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the UK. In this way, startup has already became one of Europe’s leaders in this category.

Stephen Leguillon, the startup’s CEO, explained: “This new round had two objectives: raise fresh capital so we can accelerate growth, and surround ourselves with excellent entrepreneurs who successfully built strong companies with similar models”.

These aims seem to have been achieved, as new investors include star entrepreneurs like Nicolas Brusson (BlaBlaCar’s cofounder and COO, a company that recently raised $100 million), Thibaud Elzière (founder of Fotolia and eFounders), the three founders of l’Atelier des Chefs (a leading cooking classes company) and Kima Ventures, adding Xavier Niel and Jeremie Berrebi to the list.

The young company’s mission is to make entertaining at home easy and enjoyable. The average booking is for 6 people at €45 per head, which includes ingredients, a professional Chef cooking in your kitchen, plated service, and clean up before leaving. As La Belle Assiette has now onboarded and validated over 350 Chefs, it is possible to book online with just 24 hours notice anywhere in their 5 markets (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and UK).
