Berlin- and London-based LOCK8 is selling its first 1,000 smart bike locks at trade show EUROBIKE

LOCK8’s smart bike lock is ready for production, just in time for the international trade show EUROBIKE. The Berlin- and London-based startup will sell its first 1,000 devices at the event to business customers who want to test the system for the 2015 cycling season.

The alarm-secured bike lock, which has integrated GPS and bluetooth, employs the user’s smartphone as key, locator and payment solution. In addition to this, LOCK8 has also founded a worldwide bike rental network, which its users can be part of.

LOCK8’s presence at this year’s EUROBIKE trade show will be to the launch their web-based bicycle rental network and their supporting smart bike lock technology. The platform connects bikes all over the world to one bike-rental app.

Dr. Daniel Zajarias-Fainsod, one of the two founders, explained how LOCK8 can redefine the global bicycle hire and bike sharing landscape: “If a person needs a rental bike, they will find LOCK8 equipped rental bikes in their proximity using the smartphone app. Once booked, the bike can be unlocked using the app, and off you go!”

LOCK8 is the world’s first smart, alarm-protected bike lock that connects individual bikes to a worldwide bike rental app. Smartphones are used as an electronic key, via Bluetooth. Bicycles can be located via GPS and easily booked through the app without the need for a physical key. The bike lock provides additional layers of security against theft, utilising a range of intelligent sensors.
