Jeff Bezos and Tony Hsieh’s favourite books

Books have the power to transform lives and businesses. With our section ‘The favorite books of..’ we share with you once in a while the favorite books of some of the most successful internet entrepreneurs. Today we’re looking at the bookshelf of Jeff Bezos and Tony Hsieh.

Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon

In interviews with different media outlets, Bezos has singled out ‘The Remains of the Day’ and ‘Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies’ as among his favourites. Bezos once said: “If you read The Remains of the Day, which is one of my favorite books, you can’t help but come away and think, I just spent 10 hours living an alternate life and I learned something about life and about regret.” The second book, Build to Last, talks about breaking free from business myths and delving into new thoughts and ideas to create mega companies, which stand the test of time.

Tony Hsieh, Founder and CEO of Zappos

Tony-Hsieh-pictureHsieh once stated, that ‘Tribal Leadership: Leveraging Natural Groups to Build a Thriving Organization’ is among one of his favourite books. He stated “At Zappos.com, our No. 1 priority is company culture. Tribal Leadership codifies a lot of what we’ve been doing instinctually and provides a great framework for all companies to bring company culture to the next level.” Another favourite of Tony Hsieh is ‘Peak: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow’. On this book, Tony stated: “The author of Peak takes Maslow’s hierarchy, condenses it to three levels, and explains how to apply them to customers, employees, as well as investors.”
