HouseTrip.com is a London-based startup (with roots in Lausanne) working at the accommodation end of the collaborative consumption market (Update – March 2023: The website seems to be out of use, and we therefore deactivated the original link). This platform for people to rent out homes online has now picked up $40 million, as it aims to scale up its operations en route to booking 3 million nights of accommodation this year. The C Round of funding is being led by Accel Partners, and its existing investors also participated. Read more on TechCrunch.
The district of Smichov (‘Smich’ means ‘Smile’), located in the South West of the city of Prague, is becoming the Silicon Valley of the Czech Republic. Smichov already has three attractive accelerators and co-working places where it’s fun to work and hang out, and one of these, StartupYard, which was born in 2011, is currently hosting its second batch of startups. Deezer‘s CEO Axel Dauchez wants to capture 5% of the global music revenue by 2016, without setting foot in the world’s biggest market…yet. The French unlimited-use service has confirmed a €100 million ($130 million) new investment round from Access Industries to fund an accelerated global rollout. The Wexford-based startup, Scurri.com, has secured an investment of €600K to further develop and to expand its online shipping service. On the back of this investment, Scurri will create ten new jobs. Scurri provides an innovative online service for e-commerce businesses to help them better manage the delivery of products.
