A few days ago, I had the chance to do a little skype chat with Jean-Sébastien Catier about his latest project “United Startups of Europe“. Jean-Sébastien is a Paris based entrepreneur who previously founded Jakaa – an entertainment website, dedicated to live commenting of television shows and programs. His new project “United Startups of Europe” is basically a newsletter which presents promising startups from anywhere in Europe. Each issue provides you with info about a company’s product, about its story, its strengths and weaknesses.
During our skype chat, I asked Jean-Sébastien about his goals for this project. He replied: “Our ultimate goal is to help European startups to expand in Europe. By promoting them, assisting them, anything we can think of. This is the best way to help creating a European market that could be as big as the American one. It would certainly boost innovation and startup development in Europe, without having to get an office in NY or SF to do so.”
As you might know, this is kind of a similar goal we have at EU-Startups.com. But why a newsletter? Jean-Sébastien described it this way: “First it was inspired by similar examples from the US, that could be replicated in Europe. But a newsletter is very different from a blog or a website. Our goal is not to have hundreds of thousands of subscribers, but to reach interested readers from everywhere in Europe, that have a network in their country and can promote startups just by trying their product or blogging about them. Delivered in the morning, you don’t miss any issue, and you can later explore the service or tweet about it!”
According to Jean-Sébastien, the subscriber base of United Startups of Europe is slowly growing, but the great thing about it is the balance between the different European countries.
If you’re not a subscriber to United Startups of Europe yet, make sure to subscribe now to discover a new startup every day, from anywhere in Europe!
