Finnish gaming studio Rovio announces 500 million downloads of Angry Birds

The Espoo-based startup Rovio today announced 500 million total downloads of Angry Birds games across all platforms. This milestone makes Angry Birds one of the most downloaded games in the history of gaming. And according to the young company there are no signs of a slowing down yet.

Angry Birds fans around the world have so far played a total of 200,000 years of Angry Birds, with 300 million minutes of playing time daily. Just think of all the good things Angry Bird players could have achieved with this time instead 😉

All Angry Birds games are available on major smartphone platforms, on Chrome web browser, and PC and Mac. Most recently, Angry Birds was announced for Nokia Asha 300 and 303 S40 feature phones; with this new category, Rovio will bring Angry Birds entertainment to completely new emerging mobile markets.

And that’s not all: Rovio is about to open the world’s first official Angry Birds retail shop in Helsinki. Angry Birds merchandise is a continuously growing business, and Rovio has already shipped more than 10 million Angry Birds toys worldwide. The company, which was founded in 2003, has also launched print publishing operations and delivered the first Angry Birds books.

Earlier this year, Rovio acquired an animation studio based in Helsinki, Finland, and the company is now also aiming to produce cartoons, too.
