Linz-based runtastic celebrates over 2 million downloads and profitable status

runtastic, the Austrian startup that helps you track your fitness activities, is celebrating recently reaching profitability, as well as crossing the impressive milestone of 2 million app downloads.

The Linz-based startup was founded in 2009 by Christian Kaar, Alfred Luger and Florian Gschwandtner. So how does it work? The runtastic mobile app is downloadable on smartphones, such as iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone 7. Connecting the app with devices like sports watches, scales are heart rate monitors, allows users to track their sports activities. In addition to tracking their progress individually, users can also share their exercise data with their friends, or more widely on social media (such as Facebook or Twitter).

The Austrian startup makes money through premium elements of its app, as well as an integrated sports shop on their website.
