Berlin-based shoe shop Zalando launches in the UK and plans logistics centre

The German ‘Zappos clone’ Zalando has recently entered the UK market. This means that the Berlin-based shoe and fashion shop is now available in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Italy and the UK.

Zalando was founded at the end of 2008 and was incubated by Rocket Internet, the incubator owned by the Samwer brothers. The platform offers a wide assortment of shoes for men, women and children.

The first TV commercials for Zalando UK will probably start very soon with their new expansion into this new market. In contrast to Zappos, Zalando is not famous for its customer support, but rather its funny TV commercials.

In addition to this international expansion, Zalando also plans to open up its own logistics centre near Berlin. The young company has announced that it plans to hire several hundred new employees for this logistics center in Brieselang, so stay tuned!
