German virtual world Fliplife secures seven-figure funding

Fliplife, the browser-based virtual world coming out of Germany, has just announced a further financing round in the seven-figure realm (Update – December 2022: The startup seems to be no longer in business and we therefore deactivated the link).

If you’ve never heard of Fliplife, it’s a browser-based life simulation game, where users can play games while being involved in their real-life activities. Similar to the popular game Second Life, the monetisation strategy includes B2B products, where real-life companies can enter Fliplife via methods like product placement and a virtual presence.

The investors of this financing round are Mountain Super Angels, in addition to previous investors like HighTech Gründerfonds. According to the Cologne-based gaming startup, the virtual world Fliplife is currently growing by about 800 users a day organically, meaning without aggressive marketing.

Fliplife.com, which was officially launched in August 2010, will likely use the fresh capital for product development and international marketing.
